Finally managed to put into words how I feel about "I've done my research".
The best research involves testing your preconceptions, pushing hard against biases and untruths to catch a glimpse of the world as it really is. And that's often shrouded in fog because good data and good analysis are both hard problems.
Mostly people find a story that resonates and then use the lens of that story that to look at the world. They repeat "evidence" for their story but don't question it critically.
