#Linux , #SoftwareDevelopment , #ArchLinux , #CachyOS , #NixOS , #niri (Window Manager) , #zsh (shell) , #kitty (terminal) , #warp (AI enhanced IDE) self taught mostly. Some formal education in software development, however most of my linux experience has been my own endeavors. I've worked with Linux on and off for about 15-20 years. Most of my time was spent on debian based distributions, though i spent about 3 years on fedora as well.
@Bioaxxis simple? Not so much workaround? Yes. There is series of these “compatibility layers” first off it starts with how Wayland operates compared to xorg. Check into xwayland-satillite, xdg-portal (there is several KDE/gnome) I use a window manager, niri, so if I run into issues like this, I can tweak what happens when programs open. My first recommendation which I’ll admit I have no experience with personally is to use something called “cage” it’s a Wayland compositor with built in Xwayland. A lot of people use it to run xorg software. It’s meant as a kiosk software to run one application full screen. Maybe you could run element inside it, until you delete discord?
@unixviking samba shares seem broken in CachyOS. I would recommend looking into nfs. Network File System. You can even add them to the fstab to auto mount on boot. Super easy to setup
@Bioaxxis
This may have to do with Xwayland. (Xwayland-satellite) Discord and element are not build for the Wayland compositor. They still rely on xorg. So Wayland can emulate xorg for certain apps that still haven’t been redesigned with Wayland protocols in mind
My btrfs limine bootloader snapshots have overtaken. Set up limiting limine snapshots to 5 using btrfs assistant and snapper boot entries to 5 by editing the /etc/limine-snapper-sync.conf so there’s a cap as to how many it makes.

Do you want to be customer of a company that listens into your private conversations?

Leave the #duopoly. Buy a #MobileLinux phone.

@weston also reading it was a bug in SDDM so hope they fixed it for you. Maybe consider a different DM if that still gives you problems. Or keep searching online.lol
@weston should end with the semicolon not the comma. That was part of the sentence structure of the answer lol
@celesteh
Support for Mint is still very good. It’s actually doing better on distrowatch.com that Ubuntu (hits per day)
