Because of recent developments I also feel compelled to add: the features in the new release were written by my own damn hands (... and a keyboard). The infographic took me 3 hours in Canva yesterday. It's been a busy 4 months.

My "How to Vulkan in 2026" @vulkan #Vulkan guide is now publicly available at https://www.howtovulkan.com/

I still consider it a preview, though I'm mostly happy with it and only plan on changing minor things and incorporating some feedback.

To celebrate 10 YEARS (!) of beautiful markdown documents with Markdeep, I made a new website!

https://casual-effects.com/markdeep/

Same attention to hand-crafted code, 100% data privacy, client-side processing, and text-based obsession.

New fancy CSS styles, support for more editors and markdown features, and new browser compatibility tricks for a seamless document experience.

This kicks off a month of new Markdeep feature releases to ring in the new year and the next decade of Markdeep.

GDC 2014: "Nitrous & Mantle: Combining Efficient Engine Design with a Modern API (Presented by AMD)" by Dan Baker, Tim Kipp of Oxide Games https://gdcvault.com/play/1020706/Nitrous-Mantle-Combining-Efficient-Engine

I have the same complaint about this that I did about this speaker's previous presentation: it seemed like intellectual masturbation. They discussed the way they architected their game engine, but they didn't discuss any results, or any performance figures, and they wouldn't ship anything on their engine for another 2 years.

Nitrous & Mantle: Combining Efficient Engine Design with a Modern API (Presented by AMD)

This talk will discuss how to build a high throughput renderer using the Mantle API. We will start with a basic overview of the Nitrous Engine architecture, take a tour on how memory and resource management should be thought of, and how the CPU...

It's understandable that Unreal needs to touch a lot of files when starting the editor. But what if I told you that more than 5500 of those files are not needed for the editor to start at all and are just adding multiple seconds to the editor launch time?
Let's fix this!

Speeding up the Unreal Editor launch by … not opening 5500 files?

In my last article I wrote about some tooltip optimization to reduce the start time of the Unreal Editor by 2-5 seconds. Turns out people do really care about their editor start time. So much that …

Huge yikes.

Kagi is now partnering with Brave to power its search results — and they seem to be dismissing their users’ concerns regarding this partnership with a company that’s notorious for being led by a proud anti gay rights supporter.

Just as I’ve consistently advised against using Brave’s products, I now advise against using Kagi as long as it contributes to a homophobic business.

There can be no neutral politics when it comes to people’s rights and lives.

It took me until 22 to figure out how to enjoy learning an instrument, following years of lessons that convinced me that this is not for me.

It took me until 25 to enjoy learning to speak a language after school convinced me I'd never like that.

It took me until 28 to enjoy painting after years of miserable art classes in school.

There's probably a valuable life lesson here but I'm actually just curious to see what I'll learn to enjoy next.

First time trying out film photography. Really loving the colors❤️
