Classroom teachers tend to offer less help to a student who has a 1-1 paraprofessional. This disrupts the student-teacher relationship and belongingness with friends. There are better paraprofessional models. #LeadInclusion #EdChat #UDL #Inclusion #EduTooter #education #disability
When students dysregulate and behave in unexpected ways, they are thinking with the emotional part of their brain at that moment. This is not a teachable moment. It is a time to connect, not correct. #LeadInclusion #education #Inclusion #EduTooter
Ruby Bridges was the first Black child allowed to attend a white public school in the US on November 14, 1960. She’s only 68 and currently and activist and speaker. Here she is with her first teacher at the school(the only one willing to teach her), Barbara Henry. Not ancient history. #EduTooter #LeadInclusion #BlackHistory #inclusion #education
Universal Design is often thought to be a new word for differentiation. UDL has been around for decades, though, and has a different meaning. UDL is based on predictable variation—we are planning to the “edges” in our classrooms. #Differentiation is added after lessons are designed to meet the needs of individual students. They work in concert, but the foundation is #UDL. #edutooter #education #Inclusion
Does anyone else hear the word “fart” when you hear “toot?” Can’t help but giggle a bit, #edufarters , I mean #edutooters. Okay, I’m 12. Hope you’ll giggle now, too. :) #edutooter
Least restrictive environment is a low bar. How does REAL inclusion look? Students can be excluded even when they are all in in the same classroom space. #LeadInclusion #EdChat #UDL #Inclusion #edutoot #edutooter #education #educators #teacher
Highly recommend: “Memory is the residue of the thought”1. In other words, long-term representations of knowledge (=memory) may be formed only as a consequence of manipulation in working memory (=thought).” https://sites.google.com/view/efratfurst/learning-in-the-brain #Education #BrainResearch #Brain #edutooter @edutooters #EfratFurst
EfratFurst - Learning in the brain

Introducing long-term memory and working memory: o Key features, and limitations o How do they interact during learning to build (and then use) the knowledge base. o Guidelines to aligning teaching and learning strategies with learning stages.

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a thousand times: Encouraging kids to be who they are is suicide prevention.
There have to be exceptions, but the difference in scholarly debate here versus the T-bird is refreshing. Scholarly debate causes us all to grow! Often shut down in toxic environments and by those with the loudest or most forceful voices, people can shy away. It could change, I suppose, but it feels like a positive shift so far. #edutoot #education #teacher #teachers #educators #edutooter

But, consultants are regularly discredited for not currently being in the classroom. I get it—there are people who mainly keynote the same presentations over and over. But most of us, although we do present, spend a lot of time in schools and are continually iterating our own craft as “support staff” for the schools we serve.

Increasingly, there are those who discredit the entire role of school consulting.
