Scientists discover how a single cell builds a brain with 170 billion cells

How does a single cell build a brain with billions of precisely organized neurons? Researchers suggest that brain cells use their lineage—their cellular family tree—as a kind of positional map. Cells that come from the same ancestor stay near one another, helping the brain organize itself without relying solely on chemical signals.

What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world?

What’s a piece of media (book, movie, song) that changed how you see the world? I’m grateful to have a strong mind that is not influenced by others although it’s always good to add some perspective 😊. The modern world offers dangerously varied perspectives nowadays, and it’s sad to see that most of them are evil, so be careful with that 😇. Technocrats, dictators, and dinosaurs are trying to control the masses and can’t share the abundance that our beautiful planet has to […]

Poor metabolic health can age the brain even in young people, finds new large-scale study

Two people of very different ages can have a similar level of biological aging in their brains. Such an occurrence is possible because aging and metabolic health follow two distinct pathways that influence brain health. While it is known that the brain changes as we get older, a recent study analyzing more than 3,000 brain scans found that metabolic issues affect the brain through a different biological pathway than aging does.

Frak! 😖 That hurts… 😢

As I start writing this at the end of May, I am being plagued by my lower back. It's like a nerve is caught in something, or some muscles are upset... My right side of my lower back aches badly, and it spreads out to my right bottocks, and then via de outside of my hip, to the big front muscle in my right upper leg. When it spasms, I lose some control in my right leg, making me stumble (and groan loudly). Some say that it sounds like it's sciatica, which I had to look up, because I didn't really know what it was. And part of it is right to it all, but they say it runs at the back of your leg, while I feel it going around my hip to the front of myl leg. Of course, I have had too many surgeries in that area, and that damned dislocation almost a year ago... So the nerves and muscles may have been damaged in some ways. But, the way they describe the pain, going from the lower back, through the bottocks, and leaving the leg unstable... It's all there! And I am fortunate to have a crutch at home, as it's been really helpful with walking around, and walking with Koa. […]
