@jgbunk incredibly disheartening
Classroom teachers tend to offer less help to a student who has a 1-1 paraprofessional. This disrupts the student-teacher relationship and belongingness with friends. There are better paraprofessional models. #LeadInclusion #EdChat #UDL #Inclusion #EduTooter #education #disability
When students dysregulate and behave in unexpected ways, they are thinking with the emotional part of their brain at that moment. This is not a teachable moment. It is a time to connect, not correct. #LeadInclusion #education #Inclusion #EduTooter
Ruby Bridges was the first Black child allowed to attend a white public school in the US on November 14, 1960. She’s only 68 and currently and activist and speaker. Here she is with her first teacher at the school(the only one willing to teach her), Barbara Henry. Not ancient history. #EduTooter #LeadInclusion #BlackHistory #inclusion #education
@GwenPauloski yes! More ambitious, and, honestly, easier in the long run.
Universal Design is often thought to be a new word for differentiation. UDL has been around for decades, though, and has a different meaning. UDL is based on predictable variation—we are planning to the “edges” in our classrooms. #Differentiation is added after lessons are designed to meet the needs of individual students. They work in concert, but the foundation is #UDL. #edutooter #education #Inclusion
@coryroush @DavidKnuffke Big mistake that creates mutiny, harms collective self-efficacy, misses a capacity-building opportunity, and slows any kind of progress. This is annoying to consultants, too.
@coryroush And this is exactly why I spend almost all of my consulting time delivering PD that is ONLY attended by teachers who choose and want to be there—optional “courses.” I’m at a point in my career that I’ve grown weary of convincing people (e.g., to include kids, not use grades as weapons, and support emotional regulation.)
@edutooters @maria Yes, volunteering in my community with students experiencing trauma is incredibly valuable PD (as is significant experiences in my life at this time). We all bring such important life experiences to the collective knowledge base propelling a school forward.
