Jazzy #chiptune arrangement of Suwako's theme (Tomorrow will be special) made in #pxtone collab.

Yes, we're making a kero blaster clone.

If you're interested in any particular system, feel free to ask. Same goes for the music, I didn't talk about it much so far. Otherwise, just wanted to show how the game looks now (nice debug labels on enemies...) as it's slowly getting close to feature parity. Right now we're pausing development to participate in another game jam, but the plan is to continue later this summer!

And a special thanks if you made it all the way here! This is the end of the thread!

With that out of the way though, (Phew! Good thing I'll never have to deal with Unity audio again! 🙃) time to talk about something more fun. With how the game turned out, and the positive feedback, we didn't want to stop here. Due to various #unity audio/2D pain points, and @icedlemon wanting an excuse to learn #godot, we decided to just remake it. So far it's just been me, recreating basic mechanics and visuals on a "feel like it" basis, but it's been going quite smoothly.

...Although the main theme is just a solo piano track. I'll tell you a secret: it was mostly improvised.

The game was also meant to have a boss fight. At that point I couldn't resist, I had to put in some death metal riffs! Anyways, it's cut content, so you won't be able yet to... oops, I accidentally posted it.

As for the actual boss fight, we're looking forward to actually implementing it in the remake. I hope you look forward to it as well!

The musical style ended up with all sorts of influences. Vapor City by Machinedrum was probably the biggest one.

Ambient soundscapes aren't really my strong side, but I was forced to learn for this game. The result is reverb-drenched synths and grainy drum breaks layered with ambient loops. Turned out quite nice, despite being out of my comfort zone. Here is an early version of "Nocturne", which was meant to be the second stage theme...

But first, an #introduction. Hi, my name is Axel, a musician from Finland who dabbles in programming and #gamedesign. I go by lapspider45 online. I've been making songs for well over 7 years now, and games for nearly 4 years. Mainly as an amateur so far. (wouldn't mind any work opportunities though ^ _ ^)

The game in this thread was made together with some incredibly talented people, whom I'll do my best to introduce later...

Alright I'd like to get my first ever post on Mastodon going by talking about our latest game, Ballet of Steel, made over the course of 10 days for Bullet Hell Jam 5. I made all the music, over 16 minutes in total, and worked together with Slascoplerd on SFX.
The following thread is a #postmortem from my POV as the composer, and I will also be going over our attempt to remake the game in #godotengine and realise the game's original vision...
