An old guy that’s into astronomy, electronics, Linux, and other nerdy things. Feminist. Anti fascist. Skeptic. Climate change needs to be the top line agenda for EVERY politician. Racism, inequality, ignorance, capitalism, and climate change are all intertwined. We have to elect young progressives to smash it all. He/him
It’s so sad we have to wait for the midterms to put the breaks on this criminal American president. He is committing war crimes, people are dying, and the legislature does nothing because Republicans have the majority and have no backbone. We are the rouge state. So fucking disgusting and drepressing. #uspol
tbh, i think systemd unifying most of the linux stack under the hood is a good thing, even though i do disagree with some of their recent decisions (namely the one about using AI tooling to write it). even the age grouping stuff idc too much about because all systemd does is provide a unified interface for the info, it doesn't really do anything itself and if you care about privacy you can just give it fake info - it does zero age/identity verification stuff.
(side note - the fact that the pr for that in systemd was introduced by the same person who did it on several other projects is still sketchy and should be looked into tbh? but my point is systemd largely has been a good thing by simplifying stuff like service management, and getting a bunch of the main services needed for a system to be better integrated together)

There are actually a great many people on mastodon who are not computer geeks.

The trick: you gotta grow your follows.

Y''all do remember to actually follow strangers who are interesting, right?

I love how when any piece of software says it is only available via Docker container, there always is an Arch PKGBUILD to prove them wrong
I got 86’d from a bar once. Still alive.
Even if you aren't in a country where elections will be held very soon (Canada, Australia, Singapore, Philippines) it's worth knowing just about 9 out of 10 people globally want more climate action.
This is drowned out by propaganda from the fossil fuel industry and their paid shills.

‘Spiral of silence’: climate action is very popular, so why don’t people realise it?

Researchers find 89% of people around the world want more to be done, but mistakenly assume their peers do not

The Guardian

A silent majority of the world’s people wants stronger climate action. It’s time to wake up

About 89% of the public want their governments to do more to tackle the climate crisis – but don’t know they’re the majority.

Are they really silent? Or is it that the media just keeps ignoring them...?

The Guardian

The overwhelming majority of people in the world – between 80% and 89%, according to a growing number of peer-reviewed scientific studies – want their governments to take stronger climate action.

But at least for now, this global climate majority is a silent majority.

The current mismatch between public will and government action amounts to a deficit in democracy.
