Recently, I've been reading up on gender inequality in academia. 📖 I learned that women are less likely to negotiate job offers compared to men. Fellow academics, did you negotiate your job offer? Boost is appreciated. 🙏

@joshuabecker Depends on who you ask, but yes, one could now attempt simulating the whole #Drosophila larval brain. There's plenty of data to constraint the model in meaningful ways, and we are going to attempt just that. I hope others too; we'll learn different things from different models.

i like that "favorites" has a more useful practical function than "likes" but it means i don't have a way to signal that i read a post without responding.

For forecasting/estimation.. we know from the "crowd beats averages law" that the (squared) error of the group average is lower than the avg individual error. Yay!

And collective intelligence theory says "maximize diversity" (variance), in part because the statement says (error of crowd) = (avg individual error) - (diversity).

BUT that equation actually implies that if everyone simply adopts the average... then the group remains the same, and people become more accurate.

To complement the @complexsystems group, I have created the @networkscience group for discussions about #networks  and #networkscience 👩‍🔬.

Groups are special accounts that boost every post in which they are tagged to everyone following.

To join, you only need to follow @networkscience. To post, just mention @networkscience.

Groups are different from #hashtags in an important way: you will only see posts with hashtags your instance knows about — it's essentially a search feature. With groups it's different: if a remote account from the other side of the #fediverse posts to a group you follow, you will get it!

Anyone can create a group just by following it. More information here: https://a.gup.pe

Follow @networkscience to be part of #networkscience  in the #fediverse!
