To complement the @complexsystems group, I have created the @networkscience group for discussions about #networks  and #networkscience 👩‍🔬.

Groups are special accounts that boost every post in which they are tagged to everyone following.

To join, you only need to follow @networkscience. To post, just mention @networkscience.

Groups are different from #hashtags in an important way: you will only see posts with hashtags your instance knows about — it's essentially a search feature. With groups it's different: if a remote account from the other side of the #fediverse posts to a group you follow, you will get it!

Anyone can create a group just by following it. More information here: https://a.gup.pe

Follow @networkscience to be part of #networkscience  in the #fediverse!

Gup

@tiago Tiago, this is the most helpful post I’ve seen on #MastodonGroups. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this out. 🙏🏼

Thanks for this Tiago . Im curious, how much overlap does network science share with traditional WAN networks ? I want to learn more but all I know is enterprise/carrier tech .

@redshift @complexsystems @networkscience @academicchatter Not very much, actually. Network science is about understanding the structure, function, and evolution of networks across all domains of science. It is used to understand food webs, social networks, interaction between proteins, relationships between words, etc.

The overlap with computer networks is not empty, but I think it's overall a different field.

Interesting ! well ill keep following anyway , it still sounds like fun
