Instagram collects scary amounts of your data 🫣 Mastodon on the other hand - None! ✅

What do we learn? There are great services available that do not abuse your data.

I'm super happy to share, that the #Fairphone (Gen. 6) was just announced, and we've been able to already publish a lot of code for it!

* #postmarketOS support is submitted
* 59(!) patches were sent to bring up upstream #Linux on the SM7635 SoC and enable the device.
* The stock Android source code is public on code.fairphone.com

This has been a lot of work over the last couple of months so it's awesome to finally be able to share it!

We are planning to update apk-tools to 3.0 in edge repository on July 1, 2025.

We are keeping the apk 2 index and package formats for now, so everything *should* just work, but scripts parsing the output of apk may need to be adjusted.

Making music with code in real time, fancy rsync, an open source real time strategy engine, advanced print debugging, EU-based DNS resolvers, and European government departments moving away from Microsoft and they might stick with Linux and FOSS this time.

i have a list.

thanks everyone who helped make the new #postmarketOS release! they just get better and better every time.

i continue to be more and more hopeful that we will deliver on our mission to build a production ready OS, made by and for the community that continue to contribute (whether through code, reports, debugging, or donations).

we are not stopping with systemd... next up will be factory reset support, update rollbacks, EFI on qualcomm phones, immutability, and huge tooling improvements

embedded edition is also on my mind, we need better ways to build and maintain embedded systems and we absolutely have the raw ingredients

@Tutanota That is one of the reasons, why I consider #Facebook #Instagram and #Whatsapp as malicious applications and their apps as malware (categories #spyware and #adware).
@Tutanota You should have used pixelfed because that's the actual alternative, not Mastodon
@TwodpadsDown Thanks for the idea, we will next time ;)
@Gargron @Tutanota I think @TwodpadsDown was referring to the actual comparison between Pixelfed & Instagram.
@Gargron probably because Pixelfed is centered around image sharing. But sure, Mastodon can do it too. However I think many people nowadays use Instagram because of the stories that their friends and influencers posts and because of reels that basically make users addicted.

@TwodpadsDown c'est vrai mais comment tout est "connecté" dans le #Fediverse mais un peu plus de publicité pour #Pixelfed ne ferais pas de mal ^^

@Tutanota

@Tutanota The comparison to @pixelfed seems more on point.
@collectifission @Tutanota @pixelfed I would say the same, as Mastodon is more microblogging with Pixelfed more a replacement for Instagram.
@Tutanota Here is a list of what those labels actually mean. https://developer.apple.com/app-store/app-privacy-details/#data-type
Especially "Sensitive Info" is rather... sensitive.

Hi, Take a good look at the new Terms of Service for the mastodon.social network — nothing in this network truly belongs to you anymore. The main point:

If it’s important to you to retain the right to revoke permissions for your content after deletion, the current version of Mastodon’s Terms (even though not yet enforced) does not protect that right. Moreover, the mandatory arbitration clause significantly limits your legal options in the event of a dispute.

@xenomorph @Tutanota you know you can just, not use mastodon[.]social
The default app sets you up for an account there (and i fell for that) but you can use any other server.
@Tutanota the fuck‽ That's awful!
Instagram literally ticked every box in the data sharing section

@Tutanota Let's say an app tracked all of those things and opt-in allowed you to post them to a P2P system for storage and retrieval by you only (or published if you like) and associated with a profile that exists in that same P2P network (all this is possible and exists).

Is that app "collecting" data in the sense applicable here?

Clearly it's way different to the user, but what would the app have to say here?

@Tutanota Still I'll prefer Instagram.

Because most of the people of my country didn't even know what is Mastodon 😅

I found hardly 3 to 4 accounts here on #Mastodon which belongs to #Pakistan and still active here.

@mubashirmehdi
You could teach them about the FediVerse, maybe in some form of "get-together".
Would that be something that could work in the area you are living?
