Started the process of submissions for short stories again, after giving myself a break since the holidays.

Time to armor up to battle the pangs of rejection.

#WritingCommunity - are you pretty much immune to the rejection letters at this point, or does it still sting? What keeps you submitting despite rejections?

Started a new #ShortStory because I have a friend who is fighting cancer. I'm not a shiny, hopeful person who hugs and sends inspirational phrases on pillows. So writing her a short story is my way to kind of... be there for her? (she lives far away)

Does it sort of show my lack of ability to connect emotionally with others? Well, sure. But I'm still taking it as a win. I hope it will mean as much to her as it means to me.

I thought I'd hit the ground running in #2023.

But, really, I just hit the ground.

Shout out to all my fellow #Writers who are having trouble hitting those #Goals this year. Sometimes life happens. Be too busy. Be too sick. Be too depressed. Lean into taking time away so you can come back stronger.

I thought I'd get a lot done over the holidays. I didn't. I thought I'd get back into things in the new year. I didn't. I WILL get back into things, eventually.

This year I'm going to forego the stress and pressure of resolutions. Instead, I'm going to try to let myself off the hook.

Am I going to try to accomplish a lot with writing? Yes. But I'm also going to go easier on myself if it takes me longer than anticipated to accomplish my goals.

It's difficult to balance progress with grace.

#WritingCommunity - Do you see the winter holidays as a time to take a break from writing, or do you see the holidays as an opportunity to get more writing done?

Also, whichever category you fall into, is your answer because of your work outside writing (or lack there of)?

I'm in a bit of an editing slump, but I'm hoping the holidays will cure that with less work next week and more time to edit.

For now I just want to say that I'm much happier on #Mastodon than I ever was on #Twitter. This feels more like home. I'm a casual user, but it's still like moving from a chaotic, polluted city to a nice cottage out in the country.

December means my brain is impatiently waiting for me to edit from NaNoWriMo, but my soul is outraged that I'm not taking all of December off in the wake of NaNoWriMo. I'm in a battle of wanting to accomplish more and needing a rest.

Sometimes it's difficult to tell when I need a real break versus when I'm just being a wimp cause writing is hard.

I took a week off after NaNo, but I got back into the swing of things this week. I've got 93 scenes to edit before March. I'm working on developmental edits now, and March will be when I send my WIP off to my editor for line edits. My plan is slow and steady until the holidays, where I can hopefully go into overdrive while I have more time on my hands. What are you all working on?

I'm having imposter syndrome.

Not just a passing "what are you doing?" or "can you do this?"

I'm having that nauseous, pit of your stomach imposter syndrome when you see the success of others - publications and monthly sales of books and discussions of newsletters and readers. And there's that dark thought that you'll never ever achieve any of it, that you don't belong. You're an outsider, looking in. And it will never change.

How do you fight that?

I'm thankful for Mambo #5

Sure, I'm thankful for family and food and shelter and all that.

But mostly Mambo #5
