@Fparianen Spontangedanke: Ich lebe neben Kornfeldern. Mit der zu frühen Dürre und den Hitzewellen sieht die Pflanzenentwicklung schlecht aus. Klimawandel wird zu mehr Missernten führen. Gleichzeitig produzieren wir mit Kriegen immer mehr Hunger. Ich würde nicht Korn gegen Solar ausspielen. Es ist Grundnahrungsmittel. Gibt übrigens auch erste Agrarflächen mit Solar.

@NatureMC @Fparianen Aber darum geht es doch hier: die Kombination von Solar und Pflanzen. 🌱 Nur der Pestizidgebrauch ist ein Problem, davon müssen wir weg, damit das Ökosystem und insbesondere Insekten- und Vogelpopulationen überleben können.

@Fietsbel Als ich meinen Post schrieb, war ich an der App und sah dort den Anfang des Threads mit dem Link nicht. Ich bezog mich nur auf den 2. Post und las corn britisch als Getreide.

In Sachen Pestiziden rennst du bei mir offene Türen ein.

@NatureMC beim Maisanbau herrscht eine gigantische Flächenverschwendung. Biomasse zur Energieerzeugung ist krass ineffizient (PV macht 60-75x mehr, siehe auch https://mastodon.social/@eliasp/113912699649886916) und auch als Viehfutter als Maissilage wäre eine pflanzliche Ernährung um Längen effizienter.

Ich las übrigens auch corn im Artikel als British English (wheat, barley, oates). Fehler, McKibben ist Amerikaner.
Aber ich spreche von Mehl / Brot. Nicht Benzinmais.

Und ich sprach von Agri-Photovoltaik. Dafür werden speziell gestaltete Paneele so montiert, dass die Erntemaschinen durchkommen, derzeit wird vermehrt wegen der Hitzewellen damit experimentiert, um Boden zu beschatten. Läuft im

@eliasp Obstanbau, in der Weidewirtschaft, ist aber auch im Weizenanbau denkbar bei entsprechender Umgestaltung. https://www.oekolandbau.de/bio-in-der-praxis/oekologische-landwirtschaft/diversifizierung/agrophotovoltaik-acker-und-solarenergie-optimal-kombinieren/ Fraunhofer Institut und Uni Hohenheim forschen in dem Bereich.
Kurzum: Es geht bei bestimmten Voraussetzungen beides.

@NatureMC @eliasp Agri-Photovoltaik finde ich auch sehr spannend, als Schutz vor Hitze, Hagel und Bodenerosion durch Starkregen. Für mich ging es bei dem Zitat auch weniger um ein gegeneinander als allgemein darum, unser Verständnis von Natur und ihrem Aussehen zu überdenken, als Teil der Erkenntnis, dass es wieder mehr Wildnis braucht. Aus der Perspektive find ich es so toll, dass Solaranlagen Bauern ermöglichen, Wildwuchs zuzulassen, ohne ganz auf Einnahmen aus den Landstücken zu verzichten.

The environmental ethic (or lack thereof) in agriculture knows no borders, as Aldo Leopold clearly observed. @Fparianen What I like to see are lavender fields filled with buzzing bees. When I walked along one route there were sunflowers on one side and beehives on the other. Millions of bees were flying between the two. They love lavender and sunflowers. In Switzerland you see a few lavender plants and plenty of sunflowers.

@Fparianen Don't mow ever, it's even bertter for biodiversity. Put the solar arrays off shore above the sea. The support structures become a haven for marine life.

@geoffl Germany isn't surrounded by the sea, we're already running into issues trying to get wind energy to Bavaria (which has been reluctant to build it's own turbines). So we definitely also need feasible solutions on land:)

@Fparianen But dear heaven please put the solar panels up high enough that sheep can actually *fit* in their shade. I see too many fields basically "paved" with solar panels, and it seems to me such a waste of "earth space". Vertical is also a direction!!!
