The central bank of Denmark, Nationalbanken, today announced its new offline payment system which means Danes will be able to pay digitally at the store — even when the internet is down.

This means both credit card payments and cellphone payments go through at the counter up to 7 days into an internet breakdown, because of a new technological solution which is being rolled out at grocery stores first.

Pharmacies will be added to the system later this year.

On this day in history. The Declaration of Arbroath, probably the most important and influential document in Scottish history and considered by UNESCO to be of world significance, was dated 6 April 1320: making it 706 years old today. @DrEvanGowan Been using Linux for over 20 years, first Redhat, then Ubuntu but switched because of its standard GUI. Ever since I have been using Linux Mint and very fond of it. No clutter minor issue with drivers (just WiFi on one laptop, but solved). Installed it for my wife, my dad and mother in law and myself of course. Perfect for non techies and still flexible.

It's sad to hear reports that this mural of St Enoch and a young St Mungo on a tenement on High Street in Glasgow has been removed during work currently being carried out on the building. The mural was painted in 2018 by the street artist Smug.

@bolt451 did you check macports.org. It is for running new Mac OS software on older macs. Not sure if that is what you want. But it would keep your old hardware functional if that is the goal. And also open source 😉
@bolt451 no problem. Start the PC without the bootdrive. In GRUB select Linux Mint or if you don't see a boot manger hold Shift or ESC at boot. After selecting Linux Mint, press e. Find the line starting with Linux and add nomodeset before the words quiet splash. Press F10 or Ctrl+X to boot. After installing the proper drivers you can boot normally and remove the nomodeset for better performance.

A quick search on Leo returned this:

Based on the search results, the purple/pink screen issue during Linux Mint installation on Mac is typically related to graphics driver compatibility, particularly with NVIDIA cards

Immediate workaround:

Boot in "compatibility mode" (usually the 2nd option in the boot menu) - this should allow installation to proceed, though at limited resolution (1024x768)
