Love trees. If you love trees you'll probably like me ok.
One thing that Mastodon newcomers may not realize is how easy it is to turn Mastodon for web into essentially a Tweetdeck clone, with columns for search/compose, home, notifications, and any lists you've set up. It takes literally seconds.
Here's what mine looks like right now:
Inclusion historique des droits de la Terre mère dans le pacte final de la COP15
Le cadre mondial de la biodiversité, signé à l'issue de la COP15, reconnaît la nature comme sujet de droit.

Henrietta Lacks was a poor, Black, young mother diagnosed cervical cancer in 1951. When her cells were collected w/o consent, scientists saw they multiplied fast.
“HeLa” cells changed #science. They’re used globally to study viruses, drugs, hormones, genes, diseases & develop vaccines. Lacks passed away at 31 w no recognition.
Rebecca Skloot’s beautiful book about her life & legacy is changing that. Now her statue will replace Robert E. Lee in VA. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/20/us/henrietta-lacks-statue-roanoke-virginia.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare #history #HistoryRemix
A new dismal landmark in Putin's re-totalitarianisation of Russia. The Kremlin is preparing to ban the Moscow Helsinki Group, the legendary human rights organisation created by Yurii Orlov, Elena Bonner and others in 1976. 1/4 https://twitter.com/hrc_memorial/status/1605515652931919874

#Twitter suspends #Mastodon account, prevents sharing links: Our statement
https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2022/12/twitter-suspends-mastodon-account-prevents-sharing-links/
On Dec 16, Twitter suspended our @joinmastodon account after we shared a link to the newly registered Mastodon account of @ElonJet, an account that broadcasts public flight path data of Elon Musk’s private jet, which was previously suspended from Twitter itself. At the same time, accounts of multiple journalists from major publications such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, as well as various independent journalists, were likewise suspended for either linking to the account itself or talking about the event.
The Washington Post and NYT response to the
platform arbitrarily banning its reporters shows how
liberal institutions really struggle when dealing with
the far right.
They quietly negotiated behind the scenes to keep
their reporters on there, essentially leaving independ-
ent journalists and the intercept's journalists out in
the cold. This is before we even get to the targeted
purge of anti-fascist accounts that has gone largely
ignored by the mainstream press.
This meant that Musk was able to silence large
amounts of his critics while weakening the hand of
the liberal outlets. It has set the stage for a periodic
cycle of purges now.
| also want to be very clear here, this is a critique of
the editorial boards of these institutions and not the
journalists who were banned for covering Musk.
The only way to win that interaction is to go nuclear
and impose as many costs on Musk as possible
through a coordinated response on the front pages
of the major outlets with something like a blacked
out front page with the faces of the journalists below
a with a big with the headline
"MUSK BREAKS HIS WORD; KILLS FREE SPEECH, PURGES JOURNALISTS" etc.
Anything short of that means you're applying
pressure when you are in a weaker position to do so.
This is difficult for liberal institutions because of their
belief in civility politics, pretense of impartiality and
defacto trust for other institutions.
