Joined Mastodon and hoping to get a bit more familiar? Professor Jeff Jarvis covers how this new social media alternative works and how it could affect journalism and media in the future. #socialmedia #journalism #journalist #newmarkjschool #education #graduateschool https://youtu.be/Xnbct41Sxnk
An Introduction to Mastodon with Newmark J-School Professor Jeff Jarvis

How do you make a thread on Mastodon?

Pretty much the same way as on Twitter, with one difference. You compose the first post, publish it, then reply to it, then reply to it again, and so on. But there's one difference. If the first post is Public, you can make all the others Unlisted. This way, people can follow the thread by clicking on the first post, but their timeline isn't clogged up with all of the other posts.

I just wrote a post about the current state of growth in infosec.exchange at the one month mark post E-day here: https://blog.infosec.exchange/2022/11/27/an-update-on-growth-of-infosec-exchange/

Note: I installed a plugin that will allow you to follow blog posts there by following @[email protected]

An update on growth of infosec.exchange – Infosec Exchange Blog

If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
@T3mp3st @ianseabrook @likethecoins @chrissanders88 great question. First a clarification, the Diamond Model course doesn’t cover MITRE ATT&CK much as the Diamond Model and ATT&CK are different although the course does have a couple of lessons on where the models (including the kill chain) work cooperatively. Second, I would take Chris’ investigation theory course first as a foundation to many things.
Twitter at this point is basically the second half of Portal 2 where Wheatley is running the enrichment center.

@ianseabrook @likethecoins @sergio I haven't taken Sergio's course, so I can't speak to it specifically. However, Sergio is a brilliant thinker who synthesizes information from a lot of meaningful and diverse sources. I have no doubt that it's excellent. I believe it's more focused on threat intelligence analysis.

My course on Investigation Theory is more focused on forensic analysis, the sorts of things you would do as a SOC analyst, incident responder, digital forensic examiner, and some elements of intelligence analysis (but primarily on the tactical side). If you have some specific questions about my course, send me a DM and I'd be glad to answer them.

All that said, I think most people would get a lot of value from both courses. I'd say no matter where you start, it's likely worth also taking the other :)

#infosec #fediverse will you share your thoughts? 🤔. Trying to roll my own #cti #threatintel education 🧑🏽‍🎓 using @likethecoins self study plan as a starter. https://medium.com/katies-five-cents

Considering @chrissanders88 🕵🏽‍♂️Investigation Theory ( https://www.networkdefense.io/library/investigation-theory-17444/398684/about/ ) Vs @sergio 💎Diamond Model of Intrusion Analysis ( https://school.threatintel.academy/courses/diamond )

Is there significant overlap in these courses?
Which would you take first?
Would you take either over something like Blue Team Level 1 or Let's Defend?
Something else? #osint / #malware course?

Context: on a retail worker budget. Passed GFACT & GSEC via UK Gov scheme. Would like to strengthen analysis skills.

Also thinking about picking up The Economist at 50% off for the year. Worth it? https://subscribenow.economist.com/annual50

If you made it this far, thank you 🤘🏼
