Looking to join a Lemmy instance, but since I'm blind, having to deal with exclusionary captcha solutions or requests to send an email to verify I'm a human aren't something I'm interested in.Does anyone know of an instance that tries to be inclusive in their signup process? I also don't wish to be on a blindness-specific instance, as personal experience shows me that way lies a overly conservative hell I'd like nothing to do with. Also prefer an instance outside of the US for obvious reasons. Asking the fediverse at large for suggestions, as ReddIt just doesn't appeal to me considering the research I've recently done on it... #AskFedi #Lemmy #Discussions #SeekingAdvice
Been watching the latest podcast from The Linux Cast about Linux myths via the Pipeline app. Yeah, heard more of a few of those myths before, and all them were busted by the hosts. Give it a listen #TheLinuxCast #LinuxMyths #podcast

FireFox with PWA support

Woohoo! Managed via an extension to get FireFox to support PWAs... Of course, a couple things are slightly janky with this arrangement:

  • I had to install the .deb version of FireFox instead of using the snap or flatpak version, as it won't work with either of those methods.
  • Each PWA is essentially running in its own profile, which runs within a patched instance of FireFox (the extension refers to it as a runtime).
  • Extensions, themes & settings don't carry over from the main FireFox instance, so things like 3rd party password managers, UBlock Origin, etc won't be available unless installed in each PWA profile.
  • Thankfully it seems that better (and native) PWA support is coming to FireFox in the future... fingers crossed as it's in the nightly build currently.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna stick with FydeOS for a bit... Most of what I do is on the web anyway & for those things that actually require an app (Email, Matrix & XMPP for example) I've got access to Android apps via F-Droid & the Play Store. Bonus is that I can use a local account with FydeOS (which you can't do with ChromeOS/ChromeOS Flex, btw) and minimize what data Google collects about me. Only sources of data left are the Play Store & YouTube as the majority of Android apps I've installed within FydeOS were obtained via F-Droid. I can also use Linux apps, but really haven't had a need for that subsystem of FydeOS yet. #FydeOS #Chromium #Android #FDroidApp
Experimented yesterday with Fedora’s KDE spin… I was shocked by the level of accessibility, although it wasn’t perfect. My primary issues with it were that I had to use a lot of Orca’s navigation commands to read panels in the systems settings app, and I had major issues with Konsole, the default terminal app. I wasn’t able to read any of the information in that particular apps interface using Orca. I also tried the Fedora workstation edition, which uses Gnome as it’s a desktop environment. Let’s just say that was not worth my time. Had accessibility issues there as well, and surprisingly it was worse than the experience I had with KDE. I know KDE defaults to Wayland, as does Gnome, but KDE’s accessibility implementation seems to be a lot better than what Gnome has under Wayland, with the exceptions I’ve previously mentioned. Incidentally, the X 11 experience with Gnome is actually worse now than it was previously. For example, the terminal app does not even open for me. I should also note that all this is under Fedora 41, so people aren’t confused. #A11Y #Accessibility #Blind #Experiments #Linux #Fedora41 #KDePlasma #Gnome #Wayland #X11
Heya, now that I’ve got my own XMPP server, I need to test its features. I’m looking for someone who will be willing to send me a few messages and possibly perform a test call. You can reach me via [email protected] I decided to go the route of having my server hosted via conversations.im’s hosting service. $12 a year isn’t bad, I suppose. #XMPP #Hosting #Privacy #Messaging if you’re willing to help me test things out, send me a message or let me know here via a reply. Thanks for reading!
Slowly getting used to Ubuntu 24.10 now that I've decided to ditch Windows, including deleting the installer thumb drive. Definitely a bit of a learning curve. #Ubuntu #linux
Question for my fellow iOS users: Have you switched over from using the 6-digit codes to using security keys & Advanced Data Protection on your account? Just did so myself, & hoping it improves my account security. #AccountSecurity #2FA #Apple #iOS #AdvancedDataProtection #Security #Privacy #Poll

Heh, that was the weirdest experience… Did a screen recording to demonstrate an accessibility issue to an iOS app dev, and when listening to the recording with my Air Pods 4 in my ears, I got Spatial Audio! Just happened to be turning my head as I was listening, and just wow. #SpatialAudio #AirPods #iOS #ScreenRecording
