@benjamingeer @mhoye the only good diff is a red diff!
"look the computer can generate more code faster" the world absolutely does not need or want more code, nothing needs more code for the sake of code, we need utility, functionality and empathy, an encoded understanding of the problem being solved and the humans around it. Code is the price we pay for that encoded understanding. What you've created is an entropy spigot pointed at the proxy metric graph you’re stuck using because your management doesn't understand anything.
@CenturyAvocado I'm sorry to hear that, internet friend.

A few years ago, at least twice a week someone posted the rotating, extending wooden table gif to the fediverse, because they saw it for the first time and were fascinated by it. It became a bit annoying, but it has recently disappeared from the fediverse, it seems. I kinda miss being annoyed by it. So. Here it is again :)

Originally known as a Jupe table, named after the inventor Robert Jupe, who patented it in 1835.

This is the Fletcher Capstan table: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyZYQ_rhBPs

@fesshole Must have been a bloody energetic wank. Good on ya.

Love this new sign on the Clyde Walkway, but it definitely falls into the Keep Glasgow Weird category. It's one of a number of signs inspired by Science Fiction movies around the city's Science Centre created by A Sign of Humour.

NOT A DRILL: there is a new Tim Hunkin video.

PC - Hi, morning! Glad you’re here! I’m going to start doing some updates now.

Me - No, I have a Zoom call.

PC - Right after I do these updates.

Me - No, it’s starting now.

PC - I think you’ll find that it isn’t.

In Basel they've changed some of the green traffic lights to women footballers for the Euros ⚽
I just spent the evening with one of my friends from teenage years. We see each other once in a blue moon, last time we hung out was about a year ago. And seeing her was so life-giving, fun and comfortable. We talked about friendship and authentic selves and remembered how much we love catching up. She is so badass and wise and together. What a day ❤️

I just took a peek at the thermometer outside...
Yeah...
This is fine...

@davidrevoy "The bar's on fire but my drink's still on the table" - Alice Donut

@wobbe @davidrevoy @PeterCxy

At least my drink is still ice-cold!

@davidrevoy il pourrait tellement aller sur framameme ce dessin… (si la licence le permet of course)
@davidrevoy oooooh yes 🔥🔥🔥

@davidrevoy So what's the temperature outside? If it's not even 40°C, then you should come to my place and draw this again.
@vort3 It's a humble 37°C in Montauban, France here... No I don't want to redraw it, it's already the second time. (first time was two years ago but I decided to repaint it today: https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/viewer/misc__2023-06-29_This-is-not-fine_by-David-Revoy.html )

@davidrevoy The art is perfect, I was just kidding. Just wanted to let you know the temperature can be as high as 48°C during summer here in Central Asia.
@vort3    48°C oh no. Courage!
@davidrevoy honestly stepping outside kinda feels like standing too close to a fire, so this is quite accurate
@davidrevoy everything is fine, yeah...what heat? This is fine! Yeah.....

@davidrevoy It's actually kinda chilly here. :p

Seriously. I'm bundled up a bit and I don't do that.

I know we'll get our turn but it's kinda crazy.

@davidrevoy today is my low temp for the week at a cool 88°F.

@davidrevoy I was just about to rejoice that it had cooled down to a crazy fresh 31°C on our Northern Vosges mountain at 20 h ... perfect picture for a broken climate. (In former times, this was a short August maximum at noon.)

@davidrevoy I have my new "this is fine" image. Thank you!

Could you add a small overlay with a link to your site so attribution requirements can be fulfilled by just uploading the image?
(for example next to your signature)

@ArneBab Thank you! I can't automate it for the attribution built-in the picture, but the source and the attribution can be found here https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/viewer/misc__2025-07-01_This-is-fine_by-David-Revoy.html , and no problem if you can't write the license; the small overlay signature with my name is a good enough attribution in anycase.

@davidrevoy @ArneBab Oh didn't notice it in the corner, which reminds me that sometimes artists put their names where a brand or short message would be, like could be on Pepper's mug.
@davidrevoy this is the most beautiful interpretation of a meme I saw until now. (Hopefully it takes some time until ai-crap steals it) @ArneBab
@davidrevoy im fricking melting!
@davidrevoy That facial expression is on point!
Signing-Session in Saint-Brieuc and Dinan

David Revoy
@davidrevoy but some morons would still say climate change is a myth... Last survey in Poland shows about 50% of citizens don't believe in it *sigh*
@madargon oh yes, I know that (and it's sad); my wife is Polish and we follow both France and Poland's news... Maybe it's slightly less in France, but I start to doubt about it more and more election after elections.
@davidrevoy @madargon To be fair, those surveys are mostly answered by boomers. I don't know a single person who would say that climate change is a myth (other than my, frankly stupid, mother).

That being said, I think France is still much hotter than Poland. When I lived in Strasbourg, I was afraid to leave my house during the day (one time I almost fainted when it was 38*C and I went to the store to buy more water).
Today it was 38*C in Essen, while in Poland it's apparently still somewhat manageable.

Still... sure, build more AI datacenters to produce more slop. Who cares about the environment, am I right?
@elly @davidrevoy Last thing you mentioned constantly makes me really angry. We have problem with heating, energy demand vs sustainability and water shortages. And most people know this. But billionaires and VC parasites need their hype so much...
@madargon @elly @davidrevoy It's amazing what you can accomplish when you have functionally unlimited money and no regard for human lives except your own.

@elly interesting enough, most Scientists for Future folks I know are in the age that is associated with "Boomers" and those are the ones that try to convince more people to act against #climatechange .

So maybe that is just statistics: Because "boomers" are the largest group, they also have the largest subgroups a) denying the evidence for human made climate change and b) explaining the climate change and lobbying to act to protect climate and biological diversity. (Or you just know different people. :) )

@madargon @davidrevoy 50%‽ That's way more than I thought. I wonder what was the exact question that was asked?
@elgregor @davidrevoy I don't have detailed data. I only saw post with numbers for some conspiracy views or lack of science konwledge. Disturbing thing, in most questions numbers were in 40-60% range.
kravietz 🦇 (@kravietz@agora.echelon.pl)

#Eurobarometer has just published[^1] results of “European citizens’ knowledge and attitudes towards science and technology” study, with fascinating results. Polish professor Agnieszka Szuster-Cies...

@davidrevoy Got to 28C here in my part of the UK... inside the house. Outside it was hotter. Had to work in it yesterday. Not fun.
@davidrevoy This lands a little different if the subject is a Witch of Chaosah. You know, it -might- be fine . . .?
@davidrevoy I'm sorry you have to go through so much heat. Did you have a height for Pepper, or other characters like her godmothers and friends?
@ricen85404 Hey, no, I don't have an official artwork with all characters side to side for referencing their height.
@davidrevoy i'm optimistic. we wont survive this
