Hot take:

Discord is not a documentation platform. It is a chat platform. If your project requires connecting to a discord to obtain necessary information, then your project is undocumented.

recent Windows insider preview releases added an internet speed test "button" to the Wi-Fi control center that actually just tells you to fucking Google it instead

i cannot take this bloody company seriously these days

2005: Your website looks like it was designed by a 3-year-old and barely works, this can't be a trustworthy source of information

2025: Your website looks like it was designed by a 3-year-old and barely works, this is the last bastion of truth on the Internet

No, I do not want to install your app.

No, I do not want that app shortcut on my desktop.

No, I do not want to subscribe to your newsletter.

No, I do not want your site to send me notifications.

No, I do not want to tell you about my recent experience.

No, I do not want to sign up for an account.

No, I do not want to sign up using a different service and let the two of you know about each other.

No, I do not want to sign in for a more personalized experience.

No, I do not want to allow you to read my contacts.

No, I do not want you to scan my content.

No, I do not want you to track me.

No, I do not want to click "Later" or "Not now" when what I mean is NO.

I am still not over the situation when someone asked for my “gmail”, I gave them my email address and they were like “No, your gmail!” And tried to explain to me that they only could send messages to Gmail accounts and they do not have an email.

We really need to teach more computer literacy. It was not their fault, they just did not know that Gmail IS email.

Stop using discord
Not only as replacement for forums
Just stop
Stop torturing your friends into UX nightmare, use something normal instead please

Even matrix has better UX at this point

Today I was reminded that old online chats offered context awareness for the people online: you knew you won't be a bother to a friend who has a smiley flower as a status; and you knew you might not be getting a quick reply from someone who's Away.

Today I don't even know if my friends are online or not. The messenger apps make the assumption that everyone is online, and if not, they will receive a push notification, and will reply to you as soon as possible. But this assumption is barely true. I bet it makes lives harder, especially for ND people

Sometimes, I receive questions which leave both me, and the person asking, bamboozled.

> Your website loads so quickly! What CDN do you use?

There is no CDN. It is just really small and simple, mostly text.

> Sure, but is that Cloudflare, or...?

None. It is a tiny website, just a few kilobytes per page, on a tiny server, at my home, connected to the Internet via my ISP, Andrews & Arnold.

> But are you / they in the cloud?

No. The webserver is in Newbury, in my garage.

> Neil, please can you pass my questions to your technical person? I don't think you understand, your website cannot be in your home. It must be in the cloud or have a CDN.
