Penguin for scale. This is sufficiently retro I think. It's a Tascam 488 Mark 1 from the mid 90's in perfect working condition. The MKII is more common in the wild. They can record 4 tracks at a time, so a rather confusing system of groups and tracks is employed but basically you can map groups to any track and tracks to any group on tape within the limits of the 2-group boundary. It is designed so you can mix and bounce tracks down and out to a stereo track.

Speaking of #frankenpc this is a board from a #HP 3505. In a #HP #Pavilion p6-2020a. Thats *normal* according to HP. Weirdos.

My #FrankenPlus. The front frame, chassis and serial say it's a European model 512k made in California but literally everything else is from a Plus from sometime in 1985 that's been upgraded to a 4mb with the diode termination mod. #Macintosh

Got the replacement board for the #Celeron #beigebox today and they actually threw in my second #Tualatin, a SL5ZF and I thought, why not leave it there, it's doing a good job 😆 Quirky BIOS in these things, you have to enable USB keyboard or weird things happen, including video corruption and of course no keyboard action! It's all hooked up to the box, I've got some hardware flash updates to do now.

Here is my HP xw8000. Big twin #Xeon socket 604 3Ghz processors, fairly strange 32bit architecture, #PCI-X slots. Takes up to 32GB RAM but only 64bit OSes will see more than 4GB of it, built in #ultra320 #SCSI controller, gigabit NIC, #AGP Video. Currently home to an #OS/2 #Warp 4.52 installation. Managed to get 8GB RAM.

The celeron box arrived early! Here's a macro photo of that damaged #VGA header. The seller had removed the heatsink with a non-working fan and I suspected he nad not thermal-pasted the processor so I did that and replaced the fan. It's one of those horror spring clips and unfortunately I damaged the motherboard . Now it gives 3 long beeps indicating memory error 😭 Totally my fault. However these boards are still around so I will get a replacement. Today has been a wild ride.
