Ended up having 5 fantastic candidates and convincing management to take two instead of the planned one - was hard writing the rejection letters, though.

Figured I should put an update to this post

Wow, having full-time employment really cuts down on the amount of internetting-for-fun that I get to do.

Can't complain though.

A few months ago I was stressed about finding my place -now I'm in a great (small) company and hiring for a junior systems administrator position! Maybe I can pass this blessing along. I know it's rough out there looking for work. Already floated this past my colleagues from my alma mater, thought I'd drop a line in the fediverse, see if there are any bites.

We're a Java programming company operating in the financial sector located in Tampa, Florida. We're mostly remote but there are occasionally need for hands on work in our data centers.... So technically a hybrid position. Lots of opportunities to learn and grow as the company continually evolves its infrastructure.

If there's any interest... DM and I'll happily share the job listing 👍

Love the Xenia site by @efi, because of the subject matter for sure, but also because it's like early Web websites, a fan site dedicated to one thing with a bunch of pics.

TBH I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Home routers are often thought of only when they fail in their purpose. APT and nationstate sponsored attacks can only be protected against only with concerted effort.

Resolving this problem is not simple. The ISP can't simply force updates to a wide array of devices that they may or may not own/control on the other end of the connection.

I haven't had consumer grade networking equipment in my house in years. The real issue with consumer grade tech, in my mind, is the lack of long term support. This leading to situations where updates aren't even flowing for those that take the time to periodically update!

Wonderful! “Free People Read Freely.” Read and View Librarian Tracie D. Hall’s Full TIME100 Speech

From TIME.com: “Tracie knows the power of words,” Amy Poehler said of American Library Association Executive Director and TIME100 Icon Tracie D. Hall, when she introduced Hall at the 2023 TIME100 Gala on April 26. “When I met her, and when I asked her what her favorite word was, she answered quickly: Abracadabra. How fitting […]

I'm not sure where I fall on this. I suppose it's great that a big player like AWS is contributing up stream. Better than the "open source strip mining" accusations of their post behaviors. I just always feel like there's some corpo hook in this kind of activity. Something to keep an eye on, I suppose.

Big day today! One of the final exams of my BAS Cybersecurity degree program in a couple hours, followed up by an interview for a very interesting position that utilizes my core skill set.

Fingers crossed, hopefully I'll make a good impression!

The job hunt has been rough for me, been searching for a few months now. Demoralizing to say the least. Persistence pays, they say, and I'm hoping to prove that today.

The power of positivity (and massive amounts of preparation)!

I suppose I can mention that I'm playing in the team game if the national cyber league (NCL) spring 2023 team game.... I'll probably post a thread here on it!
