Hi fediverse

I'm looking for a neutral home router with, at least Wi-Fi 6 to replace my ISP router. The budget is below 100 € and I'm trying to avoid the ones with subscriptions (like the new Tp-link). Wi-Fi 6, 4 x 1Gbps + 1 WAN 1 Gbps and OpenVPN client completes the requirements.

Do you have any suggestion? #homerouters

- WiFi 6
- 10g(?) Ethernet support
- powerful enough to handle 2g down / 1 g up

...if I did go the pfSense route, what should I be looking at?

Just...

Somebody please save me from this Google consumer hardware nightmare. Oh look, my phone disconnected from the WiFi again, who the fuck knows why! I'd look at the logs, but... there aren't any! Google devices don't expose them to us peons! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Still looking for recommendations for home ethernet router plus WiFi access point recommendations. I don't need pfSense-level of capability but I do want:
- reliability: connections cannot die every so often
- stability: doesn't need to be restarted or watched regularly
- proper diagnostics: detailed logs that are easy to get at
- proper administration UI: on device Web site is fine; custom app is worrying; "cloud" is a nooooooooooooooo

So... What wifi router and wifi bridge are good these days... No dystopian "user friendly" cloud shit please... #wifirouters #wifibridge #buyersguide

TBH I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Home routers are often thought of only when they fail in their purpose. APT and nationstate sponsored attacks can only be protected against only with concerted effort.

Resolving this problem is not simple. The ISP can't simply force updates to a wide array of devices that they may or may not own/control on the other end of the connection.

I haven't had consumer grade networking equipment in my house in years. The real issue with consumer grade tech, in my mind, is the lack of long term support. This leading to situations where updates aren't even flowing for those that take the time to periodically update!
