Assistant Professor at San José State University investigating 3D genome and computing pedagogy (he/him).

I just saw that the AI conference NeurIPS has a call for machine learning papers from high school students.

It’s bad enough that folks applying to PhD programs are being told they have to have already *published* in order to be admitted into a good program. Are we now creating even more pathways just for students who are exceptionally privileged? Imagine having the opportunity to write and publish a paper in a major AI conference in *high school*…

Teaching Tech Together (http://teachtogether.tech/en/index.html) is amazing. Thanks @gvwilson for this book. It featured in my class on Teaching Computing this quarter.

For example: here is a visual representation of possible precipitation accumulations for a point near Santa Rosa, CA over the next ~16 days from the ECMWF ensemble. The mean ~16 day accumulation is nearly 15 inches, with a range from ~8 to ~25 (!) inches. [14/n] #CAwx #CAwater

Evaluating the quality of metagenomic assemblies is important for constructing reliable metagenome-assembled genomes and downstream analyses. Here, we present metaMIC ( https://github.com/ZhaoXM-Lab/metaMIC ), a machine learning-based tool for identifying and correcting misassemblies in metagenomic assemblies. Benchmarking results on both simulated and real datasets demonstrate that metaMIC outperforms existing tools when identifying misassembled contigs. Furthermore, metaMIC is able to localize the misassembly breakpoints, and the correction of misassemblies by splitting at misassembly breakpoints can improve downstream scaffolding and binning results.

If you download your #Twitter archive it arrives wrapped as a static HTML page, which is not very useful for doing anything with, and worse: it requires the original account to be still active to do useful things like enlarge the images since they use t.co links.

So here's a #Python script to convert a Twitter archive to #markdown or other formats: https://github.com/timhutton/twitter-archive-parser

Now you can archive your tweets in any way you want.

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.

It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.

It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.

Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.

@amelia Sorry if the question is why it’s down vs info on the site.
