PSA: Students, your professors really, really like to hear from you after you graduate. Hearing what you're up to now is one of the things that really makes the job worthwhile for us!
Went to try to read a thing on "MIT Technology Review" and got intercepted by 3 different popup modals and a banner before I managed to scroll 1cm through the page. The title of the piece was "How to fix the internet" and I already closed the tab.
Loving a job that will never love you back is the first step of a journey that ends in burnout and despair. So many of my peers and are so bad at setting the boundaries that our profession requires but refuses to acknowledge.
Wow! @vijay's new book just arrived in my mailbox -- this really made my day!

"You humans have so many stories," the alien ambassador said.

"You might think so," the human envoy said, "but almost all stories we've ever told have already been lost and forgotten."

"And yet you tell new ones."

"As long as someone hears and cares. Even if it's just yourself."

Once libraries are nonexistent any modern fascist movement wouldn't even have to burn books, but flick one switch and they'd be remotely deleted from your Amazon Kindle or similar digital “library”.

Capitalists are already building the infrastructure to do this through DRM, so stop believing tech is apolitical - the defunding of libraries and paywalling of information are all part of this.

I love love love being on campus again. The student energy is so awesome!
