@mijustin The thing about the Fediverse is that it's much much more than Mastodon. Hook in your newsletters, podcasts, blog, photo & video hosting, and you can seamlessly interact from one client to the next.

See posts from a blog appear in Mastodon. Have Mastodon "replies" to a video posting appear as comments on that video on its own site. All of that and much more is possible.

If the mainstream ever gets there remains to be seen, but the power of this is mind-blowing...

One thing that's getting a little lost in this mix, is that some of the people desperately holding on at Twitter are because they are trapped by either healthcare or visas.

That there are systemic traps that trap workers in America so they feel unable to move freely to new employers who want them and would have better pay or conditions is *nuts* and deserves a lot more attention than it gets.

This is something that's been on my mind as it applies equally to photography and really any form of media that's now digital-only.

I've been slowly scanning old photos, slides, and negatives from my family. All of these predate digital phtography, and some are close to 100 years old, predating any meaningful use of electronic computers.

And looking at the present, there's only a small handful of photos of my daughter (10 years old) that aren't digital. I would not be surprised if by the time she's an adult, the majority of these are permanently lost to her. Saddened, but not surprised.

As a hobby, I'm starting to shoot a bit on film again. But the sheer convenience of digital snapshots - especially with an always-present phone - often make it a choice between digital, or no picture at all.

@patrick @squawkfox If you don't want to to add an <a> link to your profile into the actual body of your website, you can also add it invisibly to the metadata in the <head> of the html.

Just change <a> to <link>:

I've been working with the #IoT for something like 15 years now, and today is very much one of those days that can be summed up in 2 quotes; “In a relatively short time we've taken a system built to resist destruction by nuclear weapons and made it vulnerable to toasters” (Jeff Jarmoc) and "Any sufficiently advanced neglect is indistinguishable from malice.”" (Deb Chachra). Because as far as I can make out, those quotes almost entirely describe what the IoT has become. This is not a good thing.

Some Mastodon tips for someone with ONE DAY'S EXPERIENCE. Turn on the Advanced Web Interface - it's like tweetdeck. Make Columns. Verify yourself with links in your sites and rel="me". Consider your sounds/notifications for sanity. Go to https://fedifinder.glitch.me or https://twitodon.com and get an export of who you follow on twitter and import it here to follow the same folks. Turn off sounds. Note that Bridges exist to Twitter for your favs.
