This idea from Jesse Hanley resonated with me so strongly, I had to write about it.
"Do the hardest thing."
Most small business ideas are a hard job attached to an easy idea. Do your hardest idea!
"There is no way in hell, absolutely zero chance, that you can build something new and avoid bumping into “that’s not what I meant”. You can’t avoid it, because you can’t define it yet, because building software is learning!
The most important thing you can do when you’re building something new is reduce the time it takes you to go from “let me try something” to getting your ass whooped by reality."

To paraphrase Ben Thompson: "Consuming podcasts is a zero-sum activity — time spent with podcasts is time not spent with another form of media."
Really, this applies to most long-form media. Yes, sometimes people will scroll while watching a YouTube video... but broadly, folks are consuming one form of media at a time.
And, folks only have so much time in a day!
Great analysis from Paul Millerd on the wealth gap between Boomers and everyone else.

I’m in Toronto! Staying in the Annex neighborhood downtown visiting my son until I leave Saturday morning.
Anything we should see and do while I’m here?
(I know it’s Tech Week – anything good?)
Might try to put together a last-minute meetup before I go… cc @wesbos
Podcasters are worried about AI because they think AI slop is going to drown them out.
But the real risk is something entirely different…
At #podcastshwldn, Jeremy and @mijustin gave a talk titled: “Is podcasting cooked?”
We described the real threat that AI poses podcasts:
Consumers now have a more convenient way to download information!
- listeners can grab a transcript and generate a summary
- listeners can make in-depth queries in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and get personalized responses
This piece by @monteiro about "How to deal with your kid leaving" is just beautiful and real. I've had 2 kids move out (and 2 more still at home), and this hits.

I know @james isn't a fan of video podcasts, but I have to say, as a fan, it's kind of neat to see what his recording space looks like:

Also, while some video podcasts feel awkward, I think his feels totally natural! 🙌
@samsethi how many monthly SATS does James need to keep doing this version? 😉
Here is a demo of @transistor's new video podcast hosting + distribution features.
Upload one video file, and we'll automatically publish that video episode to YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify (coming soon), and HLS in RSS!
As you know, I'm particularly excited about HLS video being distributed through RSS (in the `alternateEnclosure`). Recently, Amazon Music announced that it will support this.
