@NFDI has participated in the association hearing by @bmftr_bund regarding the planned Research Data Act (#FDG, #Forschungsdatengesetz). In its statement, NFDI

1. welcomes the establishment of a German Center for Microdata (#DZM),
2. demands standardization of secure processing environments (#SPE) and
3. encourages additional steps towards the more general availability of #metadata.

What is the current status of all the projects in the #Digitalstrategie of the 🇩🇪 @Bundesregierung ? Thanks to a "brief" inquiry (96 pages 😉) in the #Bundestag, we now have a broad overview, which includes: #OpenData, #DataCompetency, #EHDS, electronic health records (#EHR) for research, data infrastructure for university medicine, the Research Data Act (#FDG), #NFDI and #GaiaX. We will unpack some of them here this week, the complete document can be found under:

We, the Aktionsbündnis neue Soziale Medien (New Social Media Action Alliance) today appealed to #universities in Germany to shut down their #X (formerly #Twitter) accounts as soon as possible.

Signatures for the appeal, written as an open letter, are now being collected on the #OpenPetition platform 📝
https://www.openpetition.de/petition/online/open-letter-to-the-german-rectors-conference-hrk-on-the-use-of-social-media

The appeal points out that the presence on X/Twitter does not do justice to the universities' remit to provide information because of the #disinformation and political agitation practised there. At the same time, presences should be established on #Mastodon and other services in the #Fediverse, whose decentralised and moderated design is much more compatible with the rules of democratic and sustainable coexistence.

Open letter to the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) on the use of social media - Online petition

We call on universities and other higher education institutions in Germany to shut down their accounts on X (formerly Twitter) as soon as possible. Their presence on X/Twitter is incompatible with the universities' remit to provide information because disinformation and political smear campaigns are condoned there. At the same time, a presence should be established on Mastodon (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastodon_(Software)) and other Fediverse (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse) server

Fully aware that this toot is likely preaching to the converted:

📢 We are retiring our Twitter/X account by the end of 2023!

You are wondering where to follow us from now on? Well, you have come to the right place: https://nfdi.social is part of a federated network that is build by open protocols and instances owned and operated by the community... basically how *all* scientific data infrastructure should be 😉

#NFDI and many consortia are stepping away from #Twitter / #X in favour of platforms that are currently more aligned with our values.
That's why we happy to happy our own Mastodon instance.

👋 We welcome all who have followed us from Twitter/X to Mastodon!
