@johannab @ai6yr @kajord @Rycaut I just do not understand the need to remove all manual controls. HUGE aircraft, such as the Boeing 777 and the Airbus 340 and many others, are programmed to fly from runway to runway, including takeoff and landing. The hard- and soft-ware must pass extreme testing before being used in live situations. Yet, the cockpit designers didn't remove all the manual controls. They understand that not every flight goes smoothly. While landing these behemoths manually is difficult, the pilot and co-pilot are highly trained to do exactly that.

The hubris of these techbros thinking their "AI", that has repeatedly FAILED simple testing, let alone any rigorous testing, is up to self-driving at all is incredible. And taking away the controls for manual driving is the epitome of stupidity.... and these guys are designing cars?

@ai6yr @kajord @Rycaut

I think any innovative genius who thinks they can completely redesign an entire human-tech interface like a car cockpit should first have to prove themselves by getting the entire world to adopt a new non-qwerty keyboard within two fiscal years and demonstrate through replicable peer-reviewed research that typographical errors no longer happen so they can safely remove the backspacer.

Then I'll listen to their ideas about door handles or signal levers or brake pedals.

Love that the slop merchants are using my book to (further) enshittify Amazon, and that Amazon's terrible QA standards is letting 'em do it.

Judge officially revokes regime's racist, homophobic revocation of hundreds of medical-research grants

Boston federal judge William Young today made final his decision last week ordering the National Institutes of Health to resume funding for hundreds of grants it had cut because they were too woke for the tender feelings of the Convicted Felon in Chief. Read more.

URGENT: Accessibility for disabled people is about to be removed from federal buildings —unless we act by MONDAY.
Taking action will require only three minutes of your time.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a "direct final rule" that would eliminate the long-standing requirement that new buildings constructed with federal funds must be accessible to people with disabilities.
They claim it’s ā€œunnecessaryā€ and ā€œburdensome.ā€ But here’s what eliminating this rule really means:
New federally funded buildings could be built without ramps, elevators, accessible bathrooms, or doors.
There would be no enforceable standards for accessibility in construction or major renovations.
It weakens the civil rights protections guaranteed by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

This rule will take effect July 15 unless the public pushes back. We have until Monday, June 16 to submit comments.

šŸ‘‰ Take a minute now and submit comments.

šŸ“§ You can Email your comments to: [email protected]

Your email comment doesn’t need to be long. Just say why you oppose removing accessibility protections and why they matter to you or your community.

And/or you can use these forms from the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (which I suspect will also get you on their mailing list):

Please speak up—and share this widely. We cannot let accessibility be rolled back without a fight.
Thank you.

"HoW dO We IMprOVe EdUcaTIoN??"

People act like it's a big mystery but it's not?

1. Better educated teachers.
2. More experienced teachers. (as in a ratio to new teachers)
3. Limit class size to 20 students aim for an average of 14.
4. Equip schools with sufficient materials eg: buildings that are safe and functional, internet that works, computers for students, you know the materials.

Most "education innovations" are trying to skip this stuff and use something else instead to save money.
