> "The problem is especially acute for #HateCrimes because many agencies that are #NIBRS-compliant are not submitting hate crime data. As a result, the 2021 #HateCrimeStatistics released late last year provided an incomplete picture of hate crime trends in this country," said Associate Attorney General #VanitaGupta in remarks at the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Wednesday. Much of the violence has targeted the #BlackCommunity – almost 60% of the reported bias crimes – while other reports include crimes against people based on their #SexualOrientation, #gender and #religion. But many police forces are not reporting hate crimes to the #NationalIncidentBasedReportingSystem ( #NIBRS). (2/3)

Florida teachers told to remove books from classroom libraries or risk felony prosecution

Teachers in Manatee County, Florida, are being told to make their classroom libraries — and any other "unvetted" book — inaccessible to students, or risk felony prosecution. The new policy is part of an effort to comply with new laws and regulations championed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R). It is based on the premise, promoted by right-wing advocacy groups, that teachers and librarians are using books to "groom" students or indoctrinate them with leftist ideologies.

"The bill contains a broad array of terrifying provisions for transgender people and their families. The most troubling is the inclusion of the phase “consenting to” in its ban on gender affirming care. Although the phrase is likely to target adult caregivers to trans youth, because the age of the ban was raised to 21, IT COULD CONCEIVABLY TARGET TRANS ADULTS18-21 years old CONSENTING TO THEIR OWN CARE."

Consenting To Trans Care Under 21 Could Be A Felony In New Mississippi Bill

The crime carries a 10 year prison sentence. This is the latest in anti-trans bills that target adult populations. Some states continue to seek the criminalization of trans people and caregivers.

Dear Avigayil,

I’m a #Christian, and my office has been giving me a really hard time about it. They claim to be so accepting of #minority #faiths! But whenever I mention going to [Christian shul] my co-workers snicker and make rude jokes.
