Vanita Gupta is arguably the greatest hero of #Biden 's DOJ. I fear that's why she's leaving. Does anyone have more of an inside scoop on that?

"Gupta is the first woman of color and first civil rights attorney to hold the #Justice Department’s No. 3 post"

Justice Department and Department of Education Announce Successful First Year of New Student-Loan Bankruptcy Discharge Process

The Justice Department, in close coordination with the Department of Education, announced today a successful first year of the new process for handling cases in which individuals seek to discharge their federal student loans in bankruptcy. One year after Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta announced the process in November 2022, data and information show that the process is achieving its goals of ensuring consistency and equity in the evaluation of student loan discharge requests, and that the process has translated into increasing numbers of eligible federal student loan borrowers seeking and obtaining debt relief under the Bankruptcy Code.

Justice Department Finds Civil Rights Violations by the Minneapolis Police Department and the City of Minneapolis

Following a comprehensive investigation, the Justice Department announced today that the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) and the City of Minneapolis (City) engage in a pattern or practice of conduct in violation of the U.S. Constitution and federal law. The Department also announced that the city and MPD have agreed in principle to resolve the Department’s findings through a court enforceable consent decree with an independent monitor, rather than through contested litigation.

As a result, the 2021 #HateCrimeStatistics released late last year provided an incomplete picture of hate crime trends in this country," said Associate Attorney General #VanitaGupta in remarks at the U.S. Conference of Mayors on Wednesday.
