Neo-Luddite software developer gone #offgrid. Lives in #alberta, #canada by choice despite the #rednecks and conservative politics. May post about #greenenergy and #selfsufficiency, but would really prefer posting his #dogs and #cats pics.
I hate fake news, lies and LLM-generated nonsense and will block you if you boost those.

Just finished this 5-metre-long drystone seating area on the banks of a loch.

It stands about 1.5m tall and will hold a single piece of oak across the three protruding stones to form a bench.

The idea was to create something rooted in the land, not just placed on it. Sheltered, steady, and quietly purposeful. A place to pause and reflect.

Built by hand, no mortar, just time, attention, and stone. All materials sourced locally.

Lapwing update: found her and still has 3 chicks. They had moved close to one of the drainage channels that crosses the field and which is full of long, dead grasses, perfect cover.

Both parents sat and all the chicks got in and under for a warm-up as its a dreich day, with low cloud and occasional rain.

Just stepped out for a cig and I can hear insistent snuffling from the back garden, I think Lil Spineyboi might be out and about. Turned out he was and he brought a friend.
We've created a society where being confidently wrong pays better than being cautiously right. Is it any wonder we're drowning in bullshit merchants?
#Sunset from the #commute last #weekend The season when I can see sunsets at home is now gone, mainly- it happens once I'm inside, now, plus it has moved north so it is blocked by the woods on the farm (in winter I see it over the bare neighbours' fields) . Now there is a brief season where I might see it coming home from work.. #Alberta #Canada #farm #landscape #photography 🎴📷 #CountryLiving #Spring #GoOutsideForMe
Its no longer dark enough at night to see stars. Although you can still see the planets. About three weeks to 24 hour sunlight. #Nunavut

Made some garden paths. Middle is wheelbarrow width, because we have space and that's useful.

Going to sprinkle woodchips on the paths later, plenty of branch piles I can collect and shred from last winters tree cleanup.

Left back is a giant apple tree so there'll be shade and nutrient sharing. We'll see what grows there.

Right side will be mostly potatoes.

Adebar striding around outside.

They're not very bothered by humans. They keep an eye on us and that's it.

I've seen them hunt directly next to the motorway.

And when the neighbour plowed his field, they swarmed after the tractor, pecking up the freshly exposed snacks.

#RuralCrime is a big problem in Alberta. My neighbours have had their property broken into twice in the last 2 years and we’ve had plenty of stolen vehicles dumped and torched. Here is one I found a few weeks ago by the cemetery. The hubcaps show its a Chevy of some sort, it was probably stolen, used for some burglaries or robberies and then set on fire.
