To show roughly where some of the Lapwing nests are I've marked this photo with 3 tiny orange circles. You may have to zoom out.

The 2 furthest away have hatched. The one nearest the fence I have just noticed and may or may not be permanent. It's a bit close to the road to not be disturbed. There's one away right that I couldn't get in the shot.

Lapwing update: the two nests circled in orange top right of previous post hatched and I spent a lot of yesterday looking for them. One parent moved to far right of field with 4 chicks. It is still in that area among longer grass.

The other parent, which had at least 3 chicks, I could not locate. There was a lot of display flying in the field by one pair. Are they preparing to raise another brood after they lost their chicks?

I'm still searching and hopeful that they are just well hidden.

Lapwing update: found her and still has 3 chicks. They had moved close to one of the drainage channels that crosses the field and which is full of long, dead grasses, perfect cover.

Both parents sat and all the chicks got in and under for a warm-up as its a dreich day, with low cloud and occasional rain.
