I really don’t like H5N1 being detected in a cat: it’s an unusual (although not unheard of) mammalian host.

Next to COVID variants, H5N1 is what I am watching most closely as we enter 2023.

YES.

I had this argument with my Children and the Law professor during law school. It was the last time I took that class seriously.

Today's must-read. "The ruling does not automatically guarantee the right to vote will be extended...but it does mean that parliament is now breaching the fundamental human rights of younger voters, and forces legislators to consider a change." 🇳🇿 🇬🇧https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/21/voting-age-of-18-is-discriminatory-new-zealand-supreme-court-rules?CMP=share_btn_tw

Ardern promises bill to lower voting age to 16 in New Zealand after discrimination ruling

Hi all, registered last week as part of the 'bird site' migration but finally now getting around to the #introduction post.

I'm a Australian lawyer who splits my time between Western Sydney and the Sydney CBD. My practice is incredibly diverse but predominantly litigious, with a focus on disputes involving government bodies. I otherwise have research interests in native title and admiralty law.

Outside of #auslaw, I'm a proud #lgbtq #gay man, and likely to toot about #food, #restaurants, #eurovision, #pop music, and bad humour.

Still figuring this place out but looking forward to being here!

In 2019 me and 2 colleagues pitched a workshop on mandatory #vaccination within the 16th World Congress on #PublicHealth. It was accepted and scheduled for late 2020. Then the #pandemic hit. Over 2 years later this special issue comes out and we have finalised our introduction. The field of vaccine #mandates has since literally exploded. Here are our thoughts on what to look for when researching mandates. Still lots to be learned, but let's say it's been quite a ride! https://doi.org/10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.11.008
I’m convening a conference next week ( #aabhl2022 ) and I am SO EXCITED to see all my colleagues from across Aus, NZ, Singapore and further afield IN PERSON after a 3 year hiatus. Looking forward to hearing all their cool research, and chatting about all things #healthlaw and #bioethics and also showing them how rad Hobart is
Shameless self promotion: Are you interested in private property, protest for communal goods (including the environment) & spatial justice?
What about radical history - the Forest Charter, Peasant’s Revolt, Kett’s Rebellion & Paris Commune? You might enjoy our book:

The Lawful Forest

Views the ‘lawful forest’ as both a material forest of trees, and a metaphor for a more relational understanding of law, property and place
