With Eurovision Asia now officially confirmed, South Korea is going to be the contest's equivalent to Sweden or the United Kingdom, no in-between.

Sweden because S.Korea and Sweden both have a massive presence in the global music industry one way or another - S.Korea probably even bigger. If they can get support from the domestic music industry, they could legitimately be a major powerhouse.

However if they cannot, they end up being like the UK, known for sending mediocrity despite the rich music scene.

Of course the year I plan to skip out on Eurovision (the usual reason...) is the year the UK entry is finally a banger.

The concept has had many false starts over the years but it looks like #Eurovision Asia may actually be a thing later this year, hosted by Thailand. I am fascinated to see what countries whose pop culture is less well known like Bhutan and Laos do with the Eurovision format.
