For anybody considering #migration between instances, I've found the guide at https://codingitwrong.com/2022/10/10/migrating-a-mastodon-account.html quite helpful. It has a few more steps than the Mastodon docs, which appear to be mostly optional, but helped me resolve an issue I had.

MORE #bayesian CONTENT. Finished my tidyverse / brms #rstats translation of *Bayes Rules!* ch. 16 on multilevel models.

They do a *masterful* job of explaining pooling, within/between variation, random offsets, and shrinkage.

READ THIS BOOK, PEOPLE! #statsodon #statTootstics https://bayesf22-notebook.classes.andrewheiss.com/bayes-rules/16-chapter.html

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ #introduction: Iโ€™m an Assistant #Professor of Statistical Sciences + School of the #Environment at the University of #Toronto. #Latina & very #gay ๐ŸŒˆ. Hoping to use this platform to talk #statistics and connect with other #researchers. #rstats #academic #LatinXstem #WomenInSTEM #SharkScience

Things are coming together for #ArviZ's InferenceData (https://github.com/arviz-devs/InferenceObjects.jl) to be a supported output type for #Turing and #JuliaLang's  #Stan interface, similarly to how it is for #PyMC.

For details, see https://github.com/TuringLang/MCMCChains.jl/issues/381 and https://github.com/StanJulia/StanSample.jl/issues/60

The #bayesian learning party continues with my brms / tidyverse #rstats translation of Bayes Rules chapter 15 introducing hierarchical/multilevel models. Nothing too fancy in this chapterโ€”it does an excellent job comparing pooling/no pooling/partial pooling https://bayesf22-notebook.classes.andrewheiss.com/bayes-rules/15
My translation of the *Statistical Rethinking* videos into brms / tidyverse #rstats continues with video 11 on ordered categories! Fairly straightforward fun stuff with ordinal logistic regression, and now I finally better understand what the heck these cutpoints actually mean https://bayesf22-notebook.classes.andrewheiss.com/rethinking/10-video.html #stats #statsodon #statTootstics #bayesian

Text might be the most neglected part of #dataviz. We talk a lot about how the right chart type and colors can improve visualizations โ€“ but not enough about how to use words well.

So I wrote about that in my latest article: https://blog.datawrapper.de/text-in-data-visualizations/

What to consider when using text in data visualizations

How to make your data visualizations easier to read (and more interesting to look at!) with the right use of text.
