We can only hope that this month continues to change over the years to do things autistic people need, such as increasing access to a diverse range of services, increasing employment access, and addressing co-occurring mental health concerns. Until then, I will continue to have mixed feelings. (2/end)

"Please do not read this article as a checklist for what to do to be an ally to autistic people. It’s not a checklist – it’s a challenge. A challenge to actively go against a century of misinformation and dehumanization of autistic people." - @AutSciPerson

Really excited to see a piece like this published. I think their approach to #neurodiversity is important and addresses how advocates can approach both our collective needs & identity while respecting the diversity within our community.
There needs to be an intersectional approach to the neurodiversity movement going forward as cross-movement collaboration towards collective goals.
Probably my favorite paper from January.
A reintroduction:
Hi everyone,
I'm testing the waters here after creating an account on another instance.
My name is Ava. I'm a masters student in neuroscience and disability advocate. I mainly work currently in autism research and advocacy. I'm currently working on various research projects, and sometimes I talk about them online.
I'm #Autistic and have cerebral palsy and ADHD.
Hoping to connect with others!

Kpop has become one of my intense interests, for sure.
A few months ago, I was feeling really down. I don't always let myself get attached to different things of interest that I think may be fleeting because my brain can have the tendency to go through a lot of them. However, I was struggling so this time, I let it happen.
4 months later, I'm pretty sure it's moved out of hyperfixation & become an intense interest.
