It's April, which means it's Autism month. I always feel weird because I'm not really sure if addressing that fact is helpful. Autistic people deserve to be acknowledged & uplifted for our experiences & are challenges. To be recognized inside & outside the disability community. However, the autistic community doesn't always feel like they benefit from a month that offers awareness without action. Recognition of only so much. And a failure to recognize the broad diversity of autistic people. (1/)

We can only hope that this month continues to change over the years to do things autistic people need, such as increasing access to a diverse range of services, increasing employment access, and addressing co-occurring mental health concerns. Until then, I will continue to have mixed feelings. (2/end)
