"Left-wing outlets have normalized of Covid too, dismissing or even ostracizing people who still take precautions as conspiracy theorists. 'We can’t be in lockdown forever,' has become a common refrain, as if wearing a mask on the subway equals 'lockdown'” https://newrepublic.com/article/177849/biden-democrats-covid-pandemic-2024
Democrats Can’t Keep Ignoring Covid in 2024

A sudden surge of the virus is a stark reminder of two things: The pandemic isn’t over, and it could be part of the referendum on the Biden presidency.

#VenturaCounty apparently just abandoned their #publichealth website in 2018. (went looking for the *second* tuberculosis case at an Oxnard Amazon warehouse and... their site is frozen in 2018).
Micah Altman and I have a letter in Science: "Evaluating Peer Review at NIH" (complaining that #NIH's plan to improve its peer review process includes no assessment plan or mechanism, and suggesting they need to fund more stuff like that.) Paywalled: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.adi1570

So over the past few weeks, I've been having a lot of exchanges and invites from people that want my technical expertise and knowledge about moderation and safety (for free), which is cool.

Still, my main reservation is that people are asking to fine-tune their perspective, which usually comes from a place of privilege.

I like the fact more orgs are forming to take safety and moderation seriously, but I think what's missing is the cultural competency piece.

To protect marginalized and targeted communities, you must attempt to understand their cultures and how they are specifically abused.

And I don't see many people reading, talking, or researching various communities and their experiences.

I see people asking me to do more labor to fix a policy that didn't have that perspective in mind, to begin with.

Suppose you're an organization that cares about making the fedi safer for targeted communities. In that case, there has to be an education piece that doesn't involve harassing and badgering us for information (for free) that has been documented and discussed for decades.

Every time I see a post about how if you're experiencing post-COVID fatigue you should exercise more, I despair. Exercise during/after COVID is a 1-way tckt to Long COVID.

If you get COVID, you should *literally do as little as humanly possible for as long as it is feasible*. Bed rest, my friends. 100% if you can swing it.

Do not engage in anything but very very very chill physical activity for at least 4 weeks after your acute infection *clears*. Then, add in other activity VERY gradually.
