They teach you about the Alamo. But they don't teach you about the Nueces massacre. At the start of the civil war, almost a hundred armed German Texans (who opposed slavery♥️🙏🏿) tried to flee South to Mexico, so that they could make it over to New Orleans. The Confederate soldiers caught them and massacred them.

Robstown in Nueces County, was one of the last places to begrudgingly give up slavery 2 years after the emancipation proclamation.

This is the logo of the Robstown football team today.🤡

The number of studies that show #COVID19 can damage multiple organs in your body has grown to 275. Recent studies show COVID can cause thyroid dysfunction, reduce blood flow in the brain, and fuse neurons in the brain. COVID is also associated with changes that may cause cancer, but this will only be illustrated over longer periods of time.

The US Is Openly Stockpiling Dirt on All Its Citizens

A newly declassified report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence reveals that the federal government is buying troves of data about Americans.

WIRED

"A study in Clinical Immunology shows that children’s immune systems don’t remember Covid. They don’t adapt. Each time they get sick, it’s like a brand new infection. Another study in PLOS ONE shows that mental health problems in children have doubled since the start of the pandemic, and that Long Covid is playing an under-examined role. The information gathered over the last year shows conclusively that children are no safer from Covid than adults."

We're in deep trouble, but there's a lot we can do.

I am very concerned about the future of AI. Not because of the risk of rogue machines taking over. But because of the homogeneous, one dimensional group of men who are currently involved in advancing the technology.

The one thing I'm seeing from the reddit blackout is how absolutely fucked up it is that the best search results were often on reddit and now just link to nothing. Centralisation and SEO and AI written articles have made searching the internet a nightmare.

Hi #AcademicMastodon

Who do you follow/subscribe to for up-to-date #PostDoc positions in #UK #Europe, beyond?

I know they're advertised across media but is there a reliable feed/jiscmail that collates in 1 place?

Asking on behalf of my many #PGRs who often come to me for advice on where to find out about Post-Doc opportunities.

Thanks.

Remember that as climate change becomes more apparent, ideas once unthinkable will become possible. Both the horrific, unjust ideas and the visionary and healing ones. Now's the time for moral imagination.
