“Don’t merge the ARC into the new tertiary commission”

Prof. Margaret Sheil, who led the recent #ARCreview, has that simple message about the Universities Accord recommendations.

Her article’s in The Australian, which I won’t link to, but here’s some excerpts:

When I started my new job Maynooth University I was lucky enough to be able to negotiate working on my 2 Australian Research Council funded projects. One of these is a Discovery project that collects the stories of LGBTQIA+ young people who are religious. These stories are not part of popular discourses and we are going to change this! Our project website is now live: https://www.youthreligionsexuality.com/ #religion #queeryouth #digital #faith

The 2023 Intersectional Humanties seminar series at Maynooth was fantastic. Looking forward to seeing this collection of voices through to publication across 2024. #intersectionalfeminism #ethnicity #race #gender #sexuality #class #disability

The ARC opened the #DECRA #DE25 applications today. As with Laureates & Future Fellowships, the app form has been streamlined, more-so in some places.

Brief summary of some changes in Twitter 🧵 below. I'll summarise myself tomorrow (I personally think the changes are good!).

Fossil Fuel Exec Is Slated to Lead COP28. We Must Decolonize Climate Governance.

Current climate governance is rooted in the same colonial mindsets that led us to this very crisis.

Truthout

In this piece I demonstrate why decolonizing #climatechange governance requires a radical shift in our approach to the #climatecrisis. It requires us to confront legacies of #colonialism & #capitalism that enduringly shape our world.

Challenging the power dynamics that perpetuate #ClimateColoniality requires centering the voices, experiences & knowledge systems of diverse #Black, #Indigenous & people of color for #ClimateJustice, while also learning from communities in the #GlobalSouth.

@farhanasultana

Really good article that needs to be read. The takeaway point are spot on:

"Decolonizing climate governance requires a radical shift in our approach to the climate emergency. It requires us to confront the colonial and capitalist legacies that enduringly shape our world. It necessitates challenging the power dynamics that perpetuate climate coloniality. It demands centering the voices, experiences and knowledge systems of diverse Black, Indigenous and people of color in climate solutions, while also learning from communities in the Global South."
