Research Management System - Scheme Round Statistics for Approved Applications - Discovery Early Career Researcher Award 2026 round 1

RMS is the ARC's Research Management System, a web-based system used by eligible researchers to prepare and submit research proposals and assessments under the ARC National Competitive Grants Program (NCGP).

The acting ARC CEO is very confused about how webpages work.

Greens Sen. Mehreen Faruqi asked for an explanation in #SenateEstimates about ARC's accidental early publication of #DECRA outcomes.

Some magical thinking here🤯

"We looked into this"🤣🤌

It turns out that there has been exactly one (1) early career research grant in this year's #DECRA round in Pure Mathematics.

One.

These grants can be make-or-break career moments for aspiring junior pure mathematicians in Australia, because there is literally no other research grant they can win, to impress prospective university employers.

For comparison, there were 9 in total across pure, applied, statistics, mathematical physics; 11 across 'physical sciences'. And 46 in engineering.

For those who missed it:

On Friday arvo ARC said #DECRA outcomes would be announced on Monday (today). BUT they accidentally made a document public on their webserver revealing the successful grants.

This is relevant for #DECRA applicants trying to understand their "scores" in RMS👇

It's very common to get As/Bs from your Detailed Assessors but Cs/Ds/Es from the General Assessors. The thread explains why.

“Why did the College kill my grant?” Yesterday was the first time most of us have received assessor scores with our #DiscoveryProjects rejections. Many are puzzled:
All As/Bs from Detailed (peer, expert) Assessors but Cs/Ds/Es from General Assessors (College members). 🧵👇
