Lawetlatla, Looit, or Mt St Helens. My closest volcano and the most active in the PNW. Hoping to make a couple trips up there this year.

A re- #introduction toot: I'm yet another c. 2022 fosstodonian who found a new home in the fediverse. I'm a photographer & a retired fine art framer based in Reno, Nevada, (USA) & I'm in the process of moving to the Four Corners region. I've been running Linux since the late '90s. All photos are mine & edited using Darktable. I follow science, history, & photography toots. Here's a photo I made of Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, Nevada (2017).

Good morning from the Washington State Cascades! As typical this time of year, I’m on a mission this weekend to check out the snowmelt conditions.
A view of the bubbles from Jordan pond in Acadia national Park in Maine.
This is a great loop trail around the entire lake.

On Thursday I hiked Augspurger and Dog Mountains for the first time. I honestly had no idea these were both very steep trails, which I enjoyed immensely. Had a snack while admiring views of Saint Helens and Adams on the backside of Augspurger, where the trail abruptly disappears. Definitely going to defy the sign that says no camping due to Big Foot someday. It was a bit early for peak wildflower season but there were some pretty flowers around. Will have to go back.
Catching up with last week's exploration of Yosemite Valley with my students.
OK, this is rad! Oregon, you keep winning!

I decided to send my hiking clothes to Insect Shield to be treated. The truth is, I couldn’t bear the thought of having to treat them myself again two or three times this year. Just got them back and so far happy. The effectiveness is supposed to last at least 70 washings. Did the bulk option and sent two pants, two shirts, three sun hoodies, and five pairs of socks. It did take 29 days from the initial order to receiving the clothes back, so plan ahead.

@andrewbriscoe hmmm.... I'm going to guess Augspurger
@andrewbriscoe When the balsam root is full bloom, Dog is totally worth a return trip, though it’s also verrrrry crowded then.. but if you can swing a late weekday afternoon sunset hike, usually parking’s no problem! A bit upstream at Mosier Plateau, Memaloose Park, and Lyle Cherry Orchard there’s also really wild blooming right now (but not as steep).
@tomsart I need to do all the other hikes in the area. Will hopefully check some of these out this year.
@andrewbriscoe Wind Mountain in the top left pic? I seem to remember that view from Dog. Flowers will be crazy there in a couple more weeks.
@GPJohnston I didn’t actually look at the map while I was there but that’s my understanding. I wanted to also do that hike after but that would have been crazy. Next time! I always admire it from the Oregon side.
@andrewbriscoe Yeah, it's Wind. When I looked at the pic I didn't see an alt-txt but read it subsequently. I can't remember, have you climbed St. Helens? That's one to put on the list if you haven't.
@andrewbriscoe 🤣 best sign
@jds Almost looks official! I wanna go back and camp.

@andrewbriscoe Cute sign! I took a Humboldt Co history class at College of the Redwoods in the '70s. The instructor was Andrew Genzoli a columnist for the Eureka Times-Standard. In 1958, Genzoli published the article "Giant footprints puzzle residents along Trinity River," where he first coined the term "Bigfoot." In the style of the sagebrush school literary movement of tall tales & hoaxes popularized by Mark Twain, Genzoli wrote the article and many followup articles. It sold papers! :)

@jds

@elaterite @jds Very cool! I’m not a believer but then again, I also can’t explain the unidentified flying objects I saw a bit over a year ago. Anything’s possible.
@andrewbriscoe Now I'm curious, what did you see? :) @jds
@elaterite @jds On New Year’s eve 23 I was camping at an empty trailhead and a drone sized object with a light appeared out of nowhere. Then it morphed into 6-10 drones with changing colors. They hovered around for a while and then flew to the other side of my vehicle and disappeared. I tried to take a video with my iPhone and it mysteriously failed, the video was just static. Only time that’s ever happened. 😬 No clue what they were.
