🤖 Anthropic dropped new research on AI & jobs:
• New metric tracks actual AI usage vs. theoretical capability
• Most exposed jobs: programmers, customer service, data entry
• Exposed workers tend to be higher-paid & more educated
• No spike in unemployment yet for AI-exposed workers
• Some early signs hiring of young workers (22-25) is slowing
TL;DR: AI disruption hasn’t clearly hit labor markets yet — but worth watching 👀

Enrollment for fall at German Pacific School of San Diego just opened up. A great place for bi-lingual kids!

Nice. One graph to rule them all, and with their DNA bind them. (I've always thought splice graphs on genome graphs was the way to go; I do think there is a profile-HMM extension of "traditional" profile models to capture evolution). Great work @[email protected] etal

@wes_goar presenting on the #GA4GH #VRS standard at #PSB23, and illustrating the challenges of standardizing concepts across genomics communities (i.e. VCF, HGVS, PGx, etc.)

At #PSB2023, Heidi Rehm: gnomAD v4 coming early 2023. Will be GRCh38. If your lab has not migrated to h38, better do it soon!

For context, the genome build Heidi and the gnomAD team are using was released by the genome reference consortium in 2014.

Really useful legal guide from the folks at the EFF for people running fediverse servers:

User Generated Content and the Fediverse: A Legal Primer

A growing number of people are experimenting with federated alternatives to social media like Mastodon, either by joining an “instance” hosted by someone else or creating their own instance by running the free, open-source software on a server they control. Rapid sequencing of a person's blood or relevant body fluid can determine the root cause of a serious infection. Why isn't this standard medical practice?

Why hasn't rapid sequencing for serious infections and sepsis become standard of care?
