Arguing against masks when pediatric ERs are collapsing across the country is like arguing against life jackets when we've capsized at sea. What's the alternative? Do you have an immediate rescue boat nearby? #covid19

((Hugs))

So the Colorado shooter's lawyers have released a statement saying he's nb and right wing trolls are using that to shift the blame away from their stochastic terrorism, as well as a gotcha when we reject the shooter's self-identification for the obvious ploy that it is. "Oh so NOW self a identification doesn't count?"

Here's a vent thread with my thoughts on the issue. 1/4

I have orders from my therapist to work on finding a community of other chronically ill moms. I really do need this. I'm struggling so much with fatigue and pain, not to mention the depression and other mental illness symptoms.

Gonna throw some hashtags out there and see if anything sticks.

If you have a group or a discord or something outside here that's thriving, please check me out and consider adopting me because I'm lost.

Please recommend disabled advocates that might be open to give a talk at Miro about importance of accessibility, especially for work tools. Online or in Amsterdam or Berlin, paid.

It bothers me that people can’t see how marginalized people are guarding their safety and that we are encouraging them to do that rather than to work to make spaces safe for them.

- this place isn’t safe for me
- go to another place then
- I can’t find a place that is safe for me
- then make a place that is safe for you
- I made a place that is safe for me
- why won’t you associate with my place???
- it isn’t safe for me, so I had to disassociate from it
- THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE

[WHITE PEOPLE DO NOT REPLY]
if you can't read you're getting blocked

I'm glad we're starting to have a wider conversation surrounding racism and especially anti-Blackness on the Fedi.

But I feel like a lot of it could be better.

I see a lot of white people partaking in the conversation in a way that derails it, centering themselves and their experiences, explaining racism to POCs, and the like.

So please, if you are not Black, don't have conversations with Black folks about anti-Blackness.

However, do call out your friends on their racist bullshit. Do not wait for us to point it out. I don't want to be the only one to say that shit is not okay. It must come from you people as well.

I would also appreciate if you boosted posts made BY POCs rather than by white people. I see a lot of this stuff. It signals that you don't value our feelings and opinions but rather our oppressors' opinions on our struggles

I would also like non-Black admins to take a stand on anti-Black racism by not just suspending racist accounts on their own instances, but also by defederating from pro-cop, anti-Black and generally racist servers.

Twice today I've seen people on here claiming mask wearing is more dangerous than covid because of mental health issues… Is this a mastodon thing?

Like, I googled "mask wearing and mental health" and every result I clicked through, studies, experts, etc. said it's not really a thing. One study even suggested that anxiety was HIGHER in populations that didn't wear masks during the pandemic.

I keep seeing people here just boldly replying with... wordy nonsense.
