It bothers me that people can’t see how marginalized people are guarding their safety and that we are encouraging them to do that rather than to work to make spaces safe for them.

- this place isn’t safe for me
- go to another place then
- I can’t find a place that is safe for me
- then make a place that is safe for you
- I made a place that is safe for me
- why won’t you associate with my place???
- it isn’t safe for me, so I had to disassociate from it
- THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE

@Patricia Literally the first post I saw on another instance was someone defending fascism and using the n-word.. sooo yeah. Luckily not on this instance though, at least so far.

@Patricia mastodon and the fediverse have like, all the tools to be great and inclusive and welcoming, it's all there, and then they either misuse or or forget to use them and the result is really icky

@Patricia Yeah you're correct. there's just a lot of shitty people in here :c
at some point somewhere the "web of communities" part of the fedi just ... kinda failed at the whole moderation and nurturing of communities part.
I genuinely believe there're great instances and communities, and that both mastodon and the fediverse can be used for good, but that's gonna require an intent that feels like it's lacking
