Every once in awhile, I think of my favorite โโฆthe fuck did you just say?โ phraseology, which is from Homerโs Iliad, proving we have never, ever changed as a species, only become less fancily inclined.
โWhat nonsense has escaped the barrier of your teeth now?โ
I am loving watching the vibecoding bubble bursting and reforming in real time. It turns out it is ludicrously expensive to have humongous billion parameter models generate a whole library of code in a loop hundreds of times per hour rather than, you know, "writing code." Cursor's pricing model finally started to try and operate at less of a loss and people revolted since they could no longer autogenerate code for 8 hours solid, and now Amazon is trying to capture the runoff with a first-hit-free cursor replacement.
Very funny how, to me, FOSS is about creating a credible bulwark of power so that we aren't at the mercy of information giants, but for vibe coders it's like a "how can I get locked in and get got as deeply as possible" speedrun.
That's 5D-educational chess.

I set things backing up last night, as I often do, and when I woke up this morning was concerned that it was only 40% done instead of having finished up at around 4-5am.
After investigating the PC thoroughly and finding nothing acting up or out of the ordinary, and noting that the process had not stopped or stalled, it was just going very very sloooooooowly, I couldn't figure it out. CPU use was at 5%, drives were read/writing at MB when they could be doing GB, I'd shut down every program and process that wasn't needed - the machine was just about idle.
Then I spotted my error. I'd plugged the backup cable into a dusty long-unused USB 2 port right next to the USB 3 one I always use for everything (including the backup). I didn't think that port still worked...
D'OH.
Happy International Non-Binary People's day to all of our non-binary siblings around the world.
