Woman on a bicycle. Advocate for a better Brisbane via better conditions for cycling. Frightened of the climate catastrophe that is crashing over us while we pretend everything's fine.

In case you needed another reminder, it’s absolutely CRITICAL, as we strive to achieve so-called “better cars,” that we make EVERY strategic action/effort at the same time (or even BEFORE/proactively) to ensure that we are achieving FEWER cars, LESS driving, more inviting transpo alternatives & better communities/cities!

Send them your love. 💚 ❤️

this right here is why the Elon Jet account is important

this information about Elon Musk, the man whose entire career is made off the idea that he's going to save the world from climate catastrophe

and this is how he rolls so he can get to a World Cup game:

Some male managers don't even realise they're doing it!

They talk to men and just trust that they know what they're doing, but then they make women *prove* they know what they're doing. They think this is fair.

Women in tech often need to do twice the work to just be listened to!

This is one of my favorite pictures. It feels like it was taken yesterday… but it was taken in a Paris public garden nearly a hundred years ago. Everything feels modern: the composition, the casualness, the daring clothes, haircuts, and accessories.

The colors are original: this is an #autochrome, using the first process for color #photography invented by the Lumière brothers in 1903.

The women are unknown, but I can't help wondering how they fared a few years later in nazi-occupied Paris.

98% of the time, both these vehicles transport one person and nothing else.

Here’s some blunt truth — I haven't seen a single North American city with a stated policy goal of mobility "balance" that has actual policies, strategies, street standards/designs, infrastructure budgets, supporting land use etc that would actually ACHIEVE balance. It’s usually code for the status quo, only slightly better — aka cars first.

One of the most important strategic policy decisions any city hall makes is passing a municipal budget. Hundreds of policy decisions are embedded in a #budget. What’s overfunded, what’s underfunded, what’s not funded at all.
You can find more truth in a city’s budget that in any vision statement or council-approved goal statement. Too many cities have budgets and visions that are completely inconsistent, or at best, not consistent enough.

Two futures:
1. Success in decarbonisation will include less car-dependent transport systems, not continuing traffic growth.
2. Failure to decarbonise will have devastating physical, economic and social effects, which will not support income-led traffic growth.
So either way, traffic growth will cease - by choice, pleasantly, if we do it right; or perforce, unpleasantly.
So either way, it does not make sense to design road capacity expansion on the assumption of endless traffic growth.
