Been interested in radio communications since I was 15. Unfortunately, my $dayjob keeps me pretty busy and away from RF.

I'm drawn to VHF+ weak signal communication and have VUCC on 6m (#3872) and 3cm (#270). You can also find me on HF if you look hard enough.

I still love science and hate computers.

SYSOP: WG3K BBS (wg3k.#smd.md.usa.noam) and D-STAR repeater WG3K-B.

Ex-Navy IT2. Current CISO for a State Agency.

@nivex I think it could in some cases, but the simplicity of National Weather Radio lends to its success.
@va3db Absolutely!
@va3db It was great when the kid was little and napping in the back seat. Less noise to wake him up!
@_thegeoff Oh, I suspect it would be bigger than either Microsoft or Apple. There are literally thousands of developers that work on hundreds (thousands?) of little projects that make it onto your Linux server or workstation. Everything from the little tool I wrote to support converting translations into something our docs tool could use to huge projects like OpenSSL. And Linux and GNU are bigger than just Red Hat or Debian.
@_thegeoff RH did employ a lot of them, but I don't think a single entity could (or should) try to finance the entire #FOSS community. Really, it's a reflection of society and how we've become reliant on money to show worth and value, as it's not a very good indicator of either. But, here we are.

I should also point out that I was gifted a J-37 key on a leg clamp that I used to use while mobile. The original texting while driving! 😆

While not as smooth as my J-38, it was my favorite mobile key!

@_thegeoff During my tensure at Red Hat, I worked on vulnerabilities like this. The shear number of very smart people that are involved in catching and/or remediating vulnerabilities in software is astounding. It's a shame that the #FOSS community doesn't get the respect (or financing) that it deserves.

I am still in awe after watching "The Internet Was Weeks Away From Disaster And No One Knew It" from #veritasium. Easily the best video I've ever seen explaining software vulnerabilities and other technologies in such a clear and concise manner.

Decades ago I bought this key at the Downeast Hamfest in Kinston for probably less than $10. It is my favorite key in my collection. Smooth and fast. Never changed anything other than to adjust the play a bit. It might not be pretty, but it's great.
