The issue with this is it creates a false impression that things won't work, so you can't do them, when you could - and you'd get results.
Like having protracker limited to 512m samples, because most machines don't have extra.

Yes, check, and if it doesn't, don't try to do it. But if it does, use it.
And yes, I know this is also sort of "people who can afford nice things get better" when taken further, and I _hate_ that. But I also dislike holding people back because others in their group can't keep up. It just hurts the people who could excel for no real reason.
And don't give me "but you could just hardware" - no, no I could not. I grew up poor, and if I damage something and it doesn't work, I can't have another - so I _will_ not do hardware modifications. "You could just pay" - again, poor.
