Can’t emphasise enough how much the Mastodon experience is improved by choosing the right app to use it. The official Mastodon app is terrible with very limited functionality, making for a very isolated feeling from everyone and the wider communities. Metatext is waaaaay better and replicates the Twitter experience much more closely. Mastodon is actually enjoyable with this app.
I advise picking through a bunch of apps to see which one is more suitable for you before settling on one to use.

For the moment, finding people on #Mastodon that you used to follow on @twitter feels a little bit like finding their stunt doubles.

Day 2 and I think I’m beginning to understand this place a bit more! I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's
